Does anyone know if the Manual Spindle ROC-N-SOC ( http://www.musiciansfriend.com/drums...45881000001000 ) seat spins freely or does it lock in place when the tightening screw is tightened all the way?

Funny thing is that this particular Gibraltar throne, the 9608MB motorcycle style seat is a near copy of a Ludwig seat with a backrest I used to own, although the Ludwig one had a full yinyl seat and backrest whist that of the Gibraltar version had a mix of cordura and vinyl. But the shape of the backrest and metal strut that fixes it to the seat is an exact copy of the Ludwig, that's for sure. I'd owned that Ludwig seat for almost a decade too. Eventually I had the seat redone and then gave it away to a keyboardist mate of mine who was looking for such a seat....by then I'd been so used to sitting on a normal stool but with good psosture, so the backrest was really under-utilised.

It will lock to the spindle. My only complaint with my ROC-N-SOC is that the lock for the spindle itself will come loose, and with rocking and shifting on the seat, it will gradually screw itself back down. For that reason alone I'd want a screw spindle base that has the clam shell clamp for a lock, such as the one used on the spindle base of a Pork Pie. If I had it to do over again, I'd get a Pork Pie round.

Here is a link to a seat that I would like to purchase.
    http://www.musiciansfriend.com/drums...0?src=3TEMCART

They mention it is an "Original Saddle Drum Throne". Is the Original Saddle larger than the "Hugger" seats? I want to make sure it is. Also, this seat has the potential of going as high as 15" to 29" as listed on the website. The Seats on the ROC N SOC website say their seats only have 2 height options which are: 16 - 22" and 22 - 29". I just want to make sure this seat on the website is the real deal.

I like the look of the Gibraltar Big Softie - all of the good of the Pork Pie, but a solid $50+ less.

I plan on getting the manual spindle Roc-n-Soc. I don't really have a use for the nitro, it's not like I'm constantly changing the height of my throne...

I don't change the height of mine either. It stays fully extended (24"). I got the Nitro for the bounce. Makes a world of difference in comfort to me.

+1... Don't change my seat height either. The bounce is extremely comfortable
