    Default Funk vs. Rock!

I was told by a friend once that you can't use techinical backbeat rhythms (as used in James Brown songs and Red Hot Chili Peppers songs.) in rock and metal.

I believe it can be done, but you have to know what you are doing in order to do so.
I want to see what you guys think.
Can you apply the same techinique in Funk, in Rock?

Funk rock has been argued like pop punk before... But funk rock does exist and i think its relaly good. Its pretty much creating a syncopated beat while something does basic notes in 4/4. I guess mostly the hihat and ride etc.

You can do just about anything in metal, especially technical rhythms

Many grindcore bands use this. And just rock and metal too. Im trying to think of some bands.

Converge, Emery, From first to last. From autumn to ashes.

I think there just a few of the bands that use this.
