Just got back from the store with these

Gretsch Catalina Club with Walnut Finish. Here is some pics at the shop as the lighting is better and my phone cam is pretty poor.

I went in the shop on Tuesday looking for some new heads for my Luddies and saw these. I was pretty good, I said to the sales guy I would think on it for a day or two and come back Friday afternoon. Thought about it. Went and bought them this afternoon for the princely some of £429. Got a free pair of Shira Kashi Oak sticks too thrown in.

The guitarist who I play with brought them back home and I quickly set them up in my living room so we could have a quick jam before he ran off to pick up his son.

They sound great at the moment, but when I get them upstairs in my drum room and fine tuned they should sound awesome!

I thought I'd post the pics up for you guys to take a look at. I gotta go pack away my old kit, carry these new Jazz Cats upstairs and set them up.

Looks like Christmas came early for me! Hope you all have a really great Christmas and get plenty of new gear so we all get some eyecandy!

    Rich.

Beautiful kit Rich! I got an older Catalina Elite 4 piece kit about a year ago. I guess it was the forerunner to the current Catalina Jazz kits. I had always played a 6 piece, so I was really shocked to find just how much fun it was to play the 4 piece Jazz setup. Have a blast with it!

Congratulations on your new set-up Rich! It looks fun to play and that dark walnut finish never goes out of style.

I noticed some Natal boxes in one pic. Does your store have any Natal kits on display?

Yes AreFish, they did. They had 3 kits on display (i think the price on one of them (maple silver sparkle) was about £1000). They looked like nice kits. they also had some snares, one of which was a bubinga stave shell - it almost came home with me as well. That was £360. They had a bubinga kit but I didn't see the price.

Thanks for all the positive responses guys.

One question I have so far that I am sure someone can help me with is regarding my bass pedal (I have a Pearl Eliminator). The beater seems a little too far away from the skin so when the beater makes contact only the top part of the beater hits the head.

So, which part of my pedal is adjustable to compensate this? and could I damage the head playing as it is?

I get some pics up soon if I can.

Congrats on the Jazz Cats! I bought some of these for a practice kit, but ended up using them more often than my main kit! The sound of the 18" kick will blow you away. To get a better FT sound, I used a Coated G2 over a Coated G1, that gives a little more 'thuddy' FT-like sound.

THe beater angle on the pedal is usually adjustable where the top of the spring meets the beater arm. There are usually a couple diffferent holes to put the screw in. A Remo kick pad sticker on the head will prevent any damage either way.
And the trees are all kept equal by hatchet, axe, and saw. . .

I know on the Iron Cobra you can adjust the beater head independently of the beater arm. Not sure if yours is the same.

NIce kit! Have a great holiday!

Re.: beater distance. Are your hoops deeper than on your other kick and that's why you have to readjust the beater?

Well I think I got the beater sorted. I adjusted the angle of the beater and stuck a piece of gaffer tape to use as a falam patch. also the beater I switched round to the horizontal-type beater and it is hitting more squarely now.

This is an amazing kit and i have got the kit sounding how I want it. I am toying with the idea of getting some Earthtone heads for it. Anybody body used these heads before? i think they would look amazing with the finish and from what i have read , would sound great for brush work.

I reckon a set of Paiste 602's would really set this kit off too.

to me, one of the finest lookin' kits I've seen in a while. Thanks for the pictures. I really like the darker wood and solid appearance. Something speaks for itself about them sounding good just based on their appearance. Have fun.
Most definitely. As a matter of fact, there will be "NO LIMIT"... just an unending quagmire of musical genius.

glad you guys are impressed with the finish. it is what made me decide to get this kit as I wanted a natural wood rather than wrap or colour.

I have a band rehearsal tonight and I can't wait to play back the recording and compare to my usual sound with the Ludwigs. Should be good!
