Ronnie Verrell, the sound behind Animal! Born in Rochester, England (thats about 10 miles from where is sit typing this!) Verell made his name playing with the big dance bands of the 1940s - The Syd Lawrence and Ted Heath Orchestras. He also did session work with Tom Jones, Tony Bennett and Shirley Bassey.

I appreciate that view, I hadn't seen that before and I do remember Mr. Verrel's name from the big band era. However you can see the real "animal" was always Rich!! The guy could out last anyone when it came to solos and "cuttin"! He just refused to let up and has incredible pride in his talent. Doc

Great drummer.. I always thought that Animal was the sound of Buddy Rich, because the videos i'd seen of Animal were with him. So I thought it was some kind of skit Rich had worked out with the network for entertainment purposes. Thank you very much for posting and showing me the truth. I would have never known otherwise, this is turning into my favorite sub-forum! Just a whole lot of great history and research in one spot, I love it.
