    My roommate gave me his ancient TKO kit that his older brother used to play. I plan on using it a gigging, workhorse type of thing.

    I'm partial to that unfocused boomy thud a few strips of felt can produce. TBH, from behind the kit, it sounds terrible. But it always sounds good out front to me. And, it makes the kick drum very responsive.

    Yeah the boom isn't for everyone. However it's a HUGE contrast to my main kit. My main kit is a double bass kit so I keep it super muffled.

    I actually like the sound from behind way more than out front, it's much deeper.

    Its not the boom.
    I like the batter tuned higher and the reso tuned low. Gives a nicer attack.

    I'm the same, I didn't like the kick that much. A high batter n' low reso for me too!

    it's definately the best sounding tko kit i've heard - but it's also the only one seriously it sounds great. and i agree on the bass drum i like that sound you're getting.
