Aaaah, the ol' poo poo drums! LOL

The good news is that they don't have to stay that way.

    What's the big problem.

If it's poo poo, you can probably tune them.

If it's POO POO, you need new heads.

Aww man, I spent 10 minutes typing out a long Webster style definition... Until my computer went THUNDER and poop.

But now I have an ultra-condensed version:

    Poo Poo Drums: (verb)
    1. An expression used to display disgust in a particular sound that emits from a drum.
Sentence: "When I went to go check out a Pearl Sessions I saw on Craigslist, it sure sounded like a Poo Poo Drum kit. He must have dug those heads out from under the kitty litter box!"

    Yes a problem.
    Mapex Pro M
    10, 12, 14 16 all suspended toms
    22 kick

    Tom batter - Clear Pinstripe
    Tom reso - Clear Ambassador
Kick Batter - Clear Powerstroke 3 with Falam patch
Kick reso - White Powerstroke 3 with 6" Chrome Holz

It might be that the heads have been on since 2007 and have traveled from the US to South Korea and back.

No matter how much I tune my toms, they sound like poo poo. The 16" is just floppy and dead. The 14" sounds distorted.

yeah, probably time for new heads

I think they sound just great. However if you feel they don't sound that good then go ahead and play around with them and change what you need to.

    Keep drumming

Dude, you are going to put new heads on that kit and it's going to totally come to life again. Pro Ms, from everything I've read about them, sound quite nice.

    Hi Riouel

I am not particular toward either clear or coated and have played both on the kit. It seems I need something somewhere in the middle. Needing the response and texture of coating, yet having a slightly more open tone closer to that of clear.
I am however, after much research and comparison, now leaning toward the Renaissance Emperor/Ambassador combo on the toms and Renaissance PS3's on the kick.

I play many styles from jazz ballads, bop, latin, blues, funk, rock, punk, metal. I pretty much need the drums to go every direction possible.

What heads are you playing? What music do you play?

The set of heads was installed for a gigging band I was in before I left for BCT in 2008. Then went off to AIT for 6 month. After AIT, I went to South Korea for a year, where I played unit instruments and never gigged outside of unit specific missions. In 2010, I went to a CONUS unit where I also played unit instruments and never gigged outside of unit missions. The only times my drums were played were in the band halls for practice and to remind myself that I had my own set of drums and cymbals.
Now that I am no longer serving active duty, it seems it is time for some heads. The bummer is that they are no longer free. This is why I have yet to replace them
