Default Tricks for mic'd up bass drum?

I use a shure Beta52 to mic my bass drum and it goes into the sound system where its processed for live performance. This weekend I'm gigging without our normal sound guy and his gear, he typically Eq's and compresses the bass drum for an incredible sound. Since he is unavailable and we are on our own, we are going to just set up some simple PA gear and "set it and forget it" but I know the bass drum is not going to sound as good as we are used to. Does anyone have any good/simple ideas for mic'ing the bass drum, that even a drummer could do ?

um...i've always found that you should turn the low frequencies down on the eq so as not to have overpowering overtones....but other than that i dunno i don't much experience in micing drums
