Interesting, I think if the natural finish was unfavorable, i'd end up going with a wrap out of simplicity. Lookin forward to seeing the project development, great ideas and gear here.

Hey Edda! Was that the pink Pearl ELX kit advertised on gumtree a lil' while back? That does look familiar. It reminds me of the same shade of pink a drummer called Tony LeRhodes used to to play years ago here in Sydney, lol, no kidding. I think it was The Zep Boys he was playing in or some similar name. But I think he had a Tama set instead of a Pearl one. He used to run a rehearsal studio somewhere around Mt Druitt and I remember seeing that kit at one time. Stood out like the dog's proverbials!

Anyway, keep us lot posted about the E-kit.....will make a great read!

Yeah that makes sense I guess. Not sure if this is your first sanding/spray job, but best of luck on it. Those shells look great so far, no noticeable flaws of any kind. Great luck to find some from an older line in that condition!

Well at least you're not going into this blindly as a first timer. Everything sounds great specwise, seem to have the shells under control too with the filling. I look forward to seeing more pics as the project unfolds.

i dont know when ill get to spraying as having moisture in the air is bad for a good finish and i can tell you in sydney there is plenty of moisture around LOL

Great job on the sanding! Looks like you got most of the rough spots cleaned up nicely and it's ready for the next step. The kick doesn't necessarily need to be made virgin for a trig-rig though.

the only reason to go virgin was because i hate having tom mounts on my kicks thats all really

Looks very nice, that drum sure cleaned up nicely. I predict it's going to take the finish really well, so good work so far. By the way, do you have a copy of the Guerrilla drum making dvd? One of the topics they cover is fades and bursts, it would add a little comfort to know what techniques they used and worked for them before going ahead with it. If you already do from past jobs, no worries. I just can't help but wonder if it would be a different feel doing it on a drum as opposed to furniture?

used lots of clamps and used hard wood blocks to put the clamping pressure across the whole drum

I think i will give it a hit of black dye , than sand back than try my hand at a dark brown fade to natural back to brown

Oh my.. This is a definitely a first for me. I don't think i've ever seen a bubinga export before(okay so it's not full bubinga but it could still fool me), or a bubinga export that's set up for diy triggering. That is truly amazing, keep posting progress of pics. I'm actually real curious about how veneers work and install on drums, i've never really understood the whole process myself.
