    Don't know if this question has been posted before, but I'm interested;

    What famous drummer(s) do you think you sound most like? If you play several styles, pick your preferred style.
    For me it's;

    Scott Rockenfield - Queensryche
    ...and...
    Tommy Aldridge - Whitesnake
    Regal Tip Quantum 3000 nylon tip - my weapons of mass destruction

    hard to say....i've been influenced by so many drummers and i am self taught so i have developed kinda my own style too so i guess it's sorta mixture between myself and maybe Martin Lopez (formerly of Opeth) and probably alot of Tony Royster JR. and maybe some Mike Portnoy and Neil Pert and Trey Cool (yes, i like punk too)....

    I would have to say I sound a lot like Don Henley. I play a lot of Eagles style music and he was one of my biggest influences.

    Probably like a hybrid of Ralph McDonald and Alex Acuna, but if I had to guess, my style is a blend of almost every jazz conga player I've heard through the years...more simply, I guess I sound like me...

    A cross over of Vinnie Colaiuta, Dennis Chambers & Dave Garibaldi. But I am not as smooth and compose as any of them. I'm a Steely Dan,Santana and Tower of Power Copy Cat Fanatic. NO FEAR. I have the songs and riffs memorized. I'm going to see Steely Dan/Micheal McDonald play Aug 13 in Virginia. Keith Carlock will be drumming for the Dan tour. I have great seats Center Section Orchestra pit. Got the tickets as soon as they came on line. Only $81 buck apiece. Now cost over $200 each. The concert will be will worth it.

    I would have to say a mix of Mitch Mitchell (Jimi Hendrix), I tend to overplay when the adrenaline flows, and some Jabo Starks from James Brown's early days.

    Great thread idea Metal. No, its never been brought up before.

    For country (which I played a lot of when I was younger), I haven't a clue who I might sound like. I play it very simple and for the song, which probably describes just about every country drummer out there. Ha!

    When I play rock/pop, I probably sound a lot like Tris Imboden (Chicago). He had a huge influence on my style growing up (playing with Kenny Loggins at the time). He's a very creative drummer.

    For fusion jazz, I probably sound the most like Steve Smith. I was also greatly influenced by Steve Jordan, Weckl, Vinnie, Garibaldi, Bill Berg, and latin-flavored powerhitters like Joey Heredia. I play traditional jazz too but it's been so intermittent through the years that I probably don't sound like any one drummer.

    I've played a lot of funk and high-energy dance in the last 15 years (I'm showing my age). Aside from James Brown and Parliament drummers (and then some), I've been inspired by friends like Raymond Massey (Wooten Brothers), Carter Beauford (pre-DMB), and JD Blair (now with Shania Twain), and some local cats that I really admire. They "lay it down" like nobody's business! I'm not sure who I might sound like in the funk arena but I get lots of compliments, even from the brothers, LOL... so I guess I'm doing something right!

    you guys probly nvr heard of default but my uncles the drummer in it (their on iTunes.. you've probably heard their song Wasting My Time) and he taught me how to play, so.... I have picked up some habits from my drum teacher too, so I guess I could say I sound like Bob Stover. (my drum teacher... lol) I wouldnt say I sound like anyone famous...

    My answer is two-fold: In the 60's and 70's my hero was Danny Seraphine of Chicago, and I patterned my drumming after his. Today I would say I'm more of a solid "less is more" type of drummer (though I can play some wicked fills when needed), so you could compare my style to a lot of people. My band compares my playing to Andy Williams of Casting Crowns, and I'll take that compliment any day.

    By the way, for any who don't know, Stan Lynch left Petty in '94 and his replacement, Steve Ferrone, is still their drummer today. He plays very much in the same style.

    Matt Cameron, with Chad Smith and a bit of Keith Moon mixed in. Maybe a bit of Bonham for the cherry on the cake.

    I've said this before but one of the bands I am involved with is a show band that is an Elton John Tribute band. We play car shows, corporate events, Casinos, and County and State Fairs. So in answer to the question I would guess I sound a lot like Nigel Olsen, Elton's first drummer and the drummer responsible for tracking nearly all of his major hits, because I spend a good deal of time imitating him.

    Probably a mix between Dave Lombardo, Frank Beard, Lance Garvin, Mike Portnoy, Igor Cavalera and Derek Roddy.

    I like to morph beats around and offer as much power as I can into playing rock, I would say that was from my Bonham influence in that field. For anything else that I play... Metal I tend to follow in the footsteps of Vinnie Paul. My funk and technical sound alikes (the good stuff) would probably be a lot of Chad Smith mixed with a bit of Carter Beauford.

    Damn, Yall are some really good drummers! I sound like an idiot with a stutter, but for one month I have gotten better. I enjoy putting on the headphones and playing to Audioslave, The Babys, CCR, Rainbow and Sugarloaf. Even though I am not considered a drummer, I enjoy playing along. Brad Wilk from RATM and Audioslave has lately been a favorite for me. I haven't touched the Ginger Baker stuff, yet. I've learned just about every Cream song on bass, but Ginger kind of scares me!

    My neighbor said my drums sounded like Led Zeppelin, they had that same sound. He did clarify that I did not play like Bonham though. The joys of being a newbie.

    Hey I love some of the old CCR stuff myself bassist! And you can't beat Born on the Bayou off the newer live album......great stuff!!

    Don't let Ginger intimidate you. Play to the songs with a very simple beat, and then add as you learn them. Next time through add one of the fills, then another. You might find it a lot easier to learn that way. It won't take long before you're playing it just like he is.
