I have no knowledge of the Pearl Sensitone, but I've heard good things. I've played the Black Panther Birds Eye Maple and it sounds phenomenal I say choose for yourself.

My Kit:
Mapex Horizon HZB in Transparrent Cherry.
Consisting of 10" and 16" Toms.
14" Snare and 22" Bass.
Toms have Aquarian Perfomance II, snare has ambassador coated.
Cymbal Array:
14" Pearl CX-200 Hats.
16" B8 Rock Crash.
20" Paiste 400 Power Ride.
10" Meinl MCS Splash.
I would keep the Sensiton man she is a beauty and all the work you put in it. Trade the picolo instead LOL. Buy the BP instead and add it to your collection. Pearl make nice maple drums too like the MCX like I have 14x 6.5 for about 300 new and they have nice finishes to match any kit. Good luck to whatever you decide. I guess you have the GAS problem again.LOL
Id go for it.
Sensitones are a great snare don't get me wrong, but a maple snare is more versatile. I've never heard a black panther that I did not like! If you can though, i'd keep the sensitone and add the black panther to it. You never know when you'll need a different snare.

If it was me, I'd keep the Pearl Sensitone brass, but then I like metal snare drums.

go for the maple . nothing sounds better to me than a wood snare.

Well, the fact that the Ludwig Black Beauty black chrome over brass is one of the most recorded snare drums in history probably dispells that idea just a bit, although to be fair the Slingerland Radio King has it's fair share of recordings too.
EDIT - I must have read you post too quickly and missed where you said, "nothing sounds better to me" - sorry 'bout that. Maple definitely has it's place as a material for snares - I have a 6x14 Keller snare that I'm quite fond of, but I personally tend to gravitate toward metal.

Riouel, I'd go for the Black Panther Birdseye Maple snare too. First of all, Black Panther snares are excellent quality snares, and since you don't have a maple snare yet, it's time brother.

Just keep in mind that by comparison, you might not get the same kind of volume, bite or projection out of that snare that you do with your Sensitone brass. Chad Smith toured with the Sensitone Classic Brass with the tube lugs, and he also used it on a number of recordings, so it holds it's own against almost anything.

Never buy a snare without testing it. If you dont like the sound then its not for you. Changing heads will only do so much. Snare to me is the most important in your set. Nuff Said Lot of guys spend a small fortune before they get the right one so do your homework
I'd probably make the trade. The two major differences between your current brass snares would be diecast/tripple flanged hoops (assuming that th sensitone has tripple flanged) and depth. A maple snare is going to be a whole different animal and give you wider range of sounds when picking which snare you're going to play. Ultimately it's up to you.
I can't say that I'm shocked by all the people saying both. Who doesn't want like a hundred different snare drums? Not Michael, that's for sure.
Mmm... Saturns.
I agree with what Larry said about a snare drum being a defining factor to a player's sound. I've got two snares I use a lot - my refinished 5x14 Acrolite, and a Keller 6x14 ten ply maple. Those drums have been used more than any other snares I've owned, and I have also owned:
Pearl Steve Ferrone Signature snare
Pearl Sensitone Elite phosphor bronze
Mapex Black Panther 6x13 maple (my friend loves this snare and is currently using it, but I didn't particularly care for it)
Pork Pie 6x14 Steel (I've actually been using this one quite a bit, but it's newer)
I've tried some other snares here and there, but the two I mentioned above are pretty much it for me, although I tend to favor the Acrolite over the maple.

I have 3 snares. 2 of which are steel ( loud ) and 1 Maple ( warm ) 6 ply. I use them all depending on the style of music I play. Steel are good for hard rock or heavy metal. Maple I use for a more mellow Rock or Jazz.
It might be a good idea to keep around various shelltyped snares later too, especially if you ever plan on recording covers of yourself. Acrylic, maple, mahogany, birch steel, brass, copper, etc - collect em all and have an army of sounds at your disposal I say.

My recommendation: don't trade any snares. Wait and save up for the Black Panther. I've traded away drums before to get other drums and I've often regretted it later.

You may well be fine with it because it's entirely possible that you will prefer the BP maple snare.
I have only ever flipped one snare that I totally regretted and at this point I really wish I had it back, especially for no more than I paid for it. It was a Pearl Steve Ferrone signature snare drum. If I ever find one at a decent price again I will snag it up because it would be perfect for the playing I'm doing now in the indie original alternative rock band.

Wouldn't mind seeing some pictures of the new snare Ricky. Congrats on the new acquisition.

Congratulations, and I know you and your snare are going to be very happy together!
Oh, and yeah, I agree we'll need pics.
