I don't think there is a cymbal that works for "metal." That's pretty broad. I think you should find one that fits the sound of your kit. Do you want a bright cymbal? a dark cymbal? fast? powerful with lots of sustain? What other cymbals do you have on your kit? what kind of sound are you getting out of your kit? Figure all this out and you will be able to narrow your choices down and find the right cymbal by sound and not what people here have on their own kit. What works for them might not work for you.

i have the custom darks and with the excetion of the 14" crash would not use em for metal. and when i use the 14 on heavier gigs i use it more like an oversized splash. on heavy music i use my avedis medium and medium thin crashes aswell as my a customs.

I personally like the dark sounding cymbals too, but, dark cymbals arnt meant for metal at all, their usually thin, and they wont cut through the guitar and bass, for metal you want something loud, and high

i mean i know the sabian aa's and aax's are good for metal and the paiste rudes are.
    what about the alpha's?
