    Default Jim Marshall has died

I heard today that Jim Marshall has died aged 88.

He is of course famous as the founder of Marshall Amplification.I didn`t know this but he started out as a drummer and a drum teacher and used the money he earned to set up a music shop in London. His customers included Ritchie Blackmore and Pete Townshend so he didn`t have a bad start in the music biz.!

They can`t be many other people who have had such a profound influence on music as Jim.

    RIP Mr M.

Whoa that's a huge blow to the guitar industry! I wonder what will become of Marshall's company now that he's gone? New changes perhaps? Rest in peace oh man of greatness, i'll see you at that great gig in the sky.

He might have been a pioneer in the idustry in the 1960s, but I doubt he was the one making innovations for the current Marshall lineup. (Aside from that, he was a "pioneer" mainly due to using MilSup supplies to try to make a cheaper version of a Fender amp, the circuitry of which was virtually copied.)

Everyone has their time - I sincerely hope I make it to age 88 like he did.

The way I understood it, he always direct involvment in his amps and products. I'm sure as he got to a certain age, he may not have been involved quite as much but who knows?

    Great inovator.

I think there should be a dedication ceremony. Like blowing the speakers out of 21 amps at once or something. Seems fitting for a tribute, and wouldn't be a bad idea to do something similar with other instruments relating to other famous people of musics' passing.

RIP ! Great pioneer. Apparently he was a rags to riches story, also a *drummer* before designing amps (of course). I think to commemorate they should build the highest Marshall stack possible, maybe 3 stories high, hook up a Les Paul and play an E chord. (mind you I do prefer Orange amps. Same sound but...they're 'orange')

I love the way ya think, Russco! Now that I'd pay to see.

Could you imagine Ritchie Blackmore's funeral? 1000 guitarists all riffing "Smoke On The Water?" Or Neil Peart's (touch wood - knocks my own cranium and gets a woodblock sound, lol), where the entire crowd in church ends up air-drumming "Tom Sawyer?"

    Now the imaginations on fire!

    RIP Mr. Marshall.
