Very nice, MI! Is that Remo Ambassadors on the toms? I like the finish of the set. What do they call that?

VERY nice set. I don't know what the depth of the 10" tom is, but as I recall you have a 12x10 and 13x11 tom. If so, with the mahagony shells, those drums must have and incredible low end projection. I repeat, very nice, MI!

Funky, you always have an eye for the details. I think you're right. I looked at the pics again, and I am guessing that you noticed the lighter wood showing on the interior of the bass drum. I think that was a good call. Still a very nice kit, though. I love the sound of maple, personally, and I'm a sucker for a good woodgrain pattern showing through the finish.

    Is this right, MI?

Man, you're still going to get some great projection from those toms! Just going from my beginner set to the Gretsch set, I found that I have to wear ear protection, or I come away from a practice session with my ears ringing. I can imagine the power that your sound has!

really? your drum teacher advised you against ear protection? i would like to hear his logic on that one. i have had a little bit of hearing loss over the years, and i am only 34. maybe not all from drumming as i love thumpin bass in my cars and do alot of shooting. its not ALOT of loss but it is there never the less. i DO wish i had started protecting my ears alot earlier. as a musician good hearing is life.

idk..my drum teacher just likes to do everything natural, as if there was no technology. When he plays, he uses no drumming gloves, no muffling, and no ear protection. When I play I at least use studio rings and such. He told me i should have a natural feel for the drums and sticks.

Very nice Michiganice...I was going to ask what wood but then that was answered. Beautiful kit and I really like the vintage look to it and set up.

id say its louder than a 14x5..but its got a deeper, nicer sound than a 5 or 6 inch deep snare would

MI, just remember that this is his decision to make for himself, and you have to make your own decision, too. Also, starting to wear hearing protection at the first signs of hearing loss does not mean that the hearing loss will stop. The damage has been done, and more hearing loss will follow. Please don't wait to protect your ears. Funky is right when he says that hearing is important to a musician (apparently all but Beethoven). If only to be able to truly appreciate the beauty that you can create.

Believe me, when you reach a more advanced age, there are many things you could go back and choose to do differently!

Amen to that, funkster! As a radio man who has worn 'phones for years--and a drummer--I can't tell ya how many times I have to ask people to repeat stuff to me...you're not the only dude who wishes he'd started protecting his ears a lot earlier!

MI, that set kicks serious ... the next thing you're gonna have to do is put up a video of you playin'! Awesome, man!
keep the beat goin' ... Don't keep it to yourself!

One awesome set, man! What vintage is that? Back in the day, Luddy's were the only drums to have!! Re.: earplugs, gloves, etc. Depending on the circumstances, I use plugs... especially when I'm practicing in the basement either solo or with the band... What good are you as a drummer if you can't hear??? Gloves... I use Ahead. Some people say they're gay or look silly or "you can't feel the stick", BS. Let me tell you, when you lose a stick because your hands are wet from sweat in the middle of the 10th song in a 15 song set, you realize just how important "gription" is. Also, I don't like to take off my wedding ring. The gloves prevent me from getting a nasty blister (trust me, I learned my lesson very, very well). It's tough to play when you've got a 4 or 5 layer of skin deep blister right where you grip the stick.
