This is something Gavin Harrison does quite a bit in his playing. I can't tell if it's 4 Single Stroke Rolls or 2 Double Stroke Rolls. It's very hard to see or tell, but I really really want to get to the bottom of this, as I have been wondering for over a year now.

Yes it is hard to tell. If I were to recreate it, I probably use 3 buzz strokes in a quick sextuplet. So I might worry about getting the sound close, however you can do it. That is one of my fave Porcupine Tree songs, for sure!
And the trees are all kept equal by hatchet, axe, and saw. . .

I'm voting for the short(6?) double stroke roll.

There are a lot of parts of that recording that are just outstanding.

I especially liked the reverse roll at 1:18 - among a hundred other parts I could point out.

    Yummy!!!

Thanks for the reply guys. I love Gavin's playing. I've had 2 questions regarding a fill or lick he has preformed and it's been 5 Stroke Rolls on both occasions. I'm going to be practicing them a lot more.
