    Default Head advice...

Hello all, I would like some advice regarding new heads fo a Gretsch Catalina jazz kit. I'm looking for a warm natural sound, I've considered trying some 'natural' heads (either animal skin or a synthetic equivalent) but am in a dither about it all...

Any 2ply or 10ml thick coated or frosted batter should do the trick like Remo Ambassadors or frosted G1 or G2.

    I agree with Slinglander
Remos Coated Amb / clear Amb or Emperors/ Amb
    Evans Coated G1's/ G1's or G2's/G1
    These are all great combinations

+1 as well, although you might want to give Vintage Ambassadors a try as well. They are a two ply coated with one 7.5 mil ply and one 3 mil ply.

Try coated single ply w/ no dampening for batter, and the same for resonant head on toms and kick.

Sounds to me like Remo Fybreskins are what you are looking for.

Fiber-skyns for sure! Nobody else makes them but Remo. They got that real old time jazzy sound that you get from animal skins (avoid at all costs because of humidty issues). They also have what I refer to as a "buttery" feel to play on with the sticks. Stellar for brush work as well.

    all the best...

not the best actually. In time, the top coating of that fiber stuff will lift a bit. I've had a couple of heads that have done this but some that have not. To be fair, all heads will wear out eventually. These tend to lift rather dimple or flake.

    all the best...

if you ask a drummer what time it is?!? they're likely to respond with a time signature "oh, it's 4/4"....
