Oh baby. Ohhhh baby. Great choice man.

I picked up a new snare drum today. It's a 6.5 x 14 DW Collector's Series Black Nickel Over Brass with chrome hardware. It has a 1 mm brass shell plated with nickel. It has 3 mm True Hoops, 10 lugs, Mag Throw and 3-Position Butt Plate. I replaced the stock heads with an Aquarian Single Ply Coated w/ Power Dot and a Classic Clear Snare Side.
The drum is heaver than a 10-ply maple of the same size, but not as heavy as the DW Brass snare. I've only played it for about 20 minutes so far with about a medium / high tuning. I'm very pleased with the way this drum sounds from the cross sticking to the rim shots and everything else in between. I'm not using any muffling, with the exception of what the reverse dot provides, and the overtones are pleasant without being too ringy IMO.

Beautiful Snare
Haha, thanks Isaac. I may have said this before, but no more equipment growth for awhile. I really don't "need" anything else at the moment.
Thank you! In my travels looking for this snare I ran across the thick shell brass version like yours in the 6.5" depth. Those things are tanks. You must love yours.
Thank you Sir and thanks for the other shout-out too.
I appreciate it. Can't touch it though...fingerprint magnet.
That's hot.
WOW -- that is nice !
I like that throw.............

Awesome addition!!! How much was this puppy?
Yummy yummy! I like how the throwoff can be used with a drumkey, nice touch. That's going to blend in perfectly with your performance kit too. Great pickup.

Beautiful snare. How would you describe the sound?

How does it compare to the DWPS snare? Similar or very different?

I will. This Sunday will be my first Sunday playing since I bought the drum. I plan on using it Sunday.
Thank you. It has a deep, fat sound with some pleasant overtones. It sounds almost timbale-esque when played toward the edge. IMO it is a sweet sounding drum.
Very different. I've got very different heads on each drum, but they wouldn't sound the same with the same heads I'm sure.
The tension knob on the throw-off has a nipple that sticks out that allows you to adjust with a key.
You are the man areFish. That is the exact head I would put on that

Nice looking snare!

I got to play a brass snare almost exactly like that not very long ago, just without the black-nickel finish, awesome snare Yours looks great, looking forward to seeing it with your kit, I bet it will match very well My favorite thing about our snares, aside from the pure awesome sounds that we get, is the throw-offs and butt-plates haha I don't think anyone can top those at the moment

Good call on the head combo! I use the same on a snare of my own too, a great response and durability with not too much focus or sustain.

I don't know about being the man, but it is nice head combo. Thank you!
Thanks Ciz. By chance was the snare you played the DW Brass? I took a look at that one but didn't play it. It has a 3 mm shell I believe and weighs a ton (costs more too). The Nickel Over Brass is a 1 mm shell. Per DW this is supposed to have that "classic studio brass snare sound".
I took a chance on the head combo and think I did good.
Will do. Thank you.
I haven't found a reason to use a key for the adjustment knob, but that option is there if the need arises.
