WOW..... Awesome deal, I wish I could find deals like this haha. Both snares are solid snare, give us some pics!
Traded one of my snaresto a guy and got 2 in return...A maplePearl7x12 in amber lacquer and the other one is a 2005 5x14 DW COLLECTORS maple snarewith a 10+6 shellin natural oil finish!!!Thesnare I traded him was a CB700/Pearl 8x14 maple free floating snare. I bought the free floater for $150.00 and both of the snares I got are worth that or way more as is the case with the DW! I'd say that was a good deal for me! My DW snare collection keeps growing!
I've been searching for this Pearl 7x12 maple for a while but every one I found was too expensive for the condition. This one is in pristine condition and so is the DW snare!
Any thoughts, tuning ideas, opinions, comments on any of these snares, feel free to respond!

Congrats on the Pearl 12"x7", I used to have that snare! I sold it to a friend and in turn had Ayotte copy it. Here's ours together:
When I owned it I liked the Remo Coated Ambassador batter and stock clear bottom. Nowadays I like Evans, so a Hazy 300 reso and Coated G2 top... although I'm looking at trying the G14 next time.
I liked to keep it medium to low with lots of body. The smaller size would lend you to think to crank it up tight, but I like to use a steel snare now for higher pitch.
A simple, elegant design is good engineering.

This Pearl soprano snare is dope... I also noticed this is a new model one like the one on the pearl website with the CL-100 bridge lugs. Mine has more modern bridge lugs than the one posted above. That explains why it is pristine and new looking! The model number is pearl m1270. These are selling new for $359 and used for around $270. The one I have looks as if it is brand me, right out of the box, except it already had a new coated emperor on top and a new ambassador hazy on bottom.
The DW 10+6 snares are in the $375-$450 ballpark. With a Humes & Berg Enduro hard case with pudding for the DW and a Protection Racket sheepskin lined gig bag for the Pearl, I'm am still in awe that I got all of that for a drum that I only spent $150 on.
I put a Remo powerstroke x on the DW but I removed the built in ring so I would be left with on a coated single ply 14 mil head. It gives me most of the benefits of a coated ambassador, but with the added durability of a coated emperor. I'm in love with both of these snares. They both sound AMAZING!!!!

Sounds like you did very well DS. You obviously ran across someone that wanted your snare very badly. He was wanting it bad enough to part with 2 very good snares to get it. I guess it worked out well for you both.

You made a heck of a trade I would say! I think you'll find it comes in most useful when you need a brighter pop. Being a whole fundamental note higher than a 14", it's a great fit alongside one. Congratulations on growing your snare arsenal, you never know when you'll need a different sound.

I'll try to get some pics up when I get a chance. I want a shot of all my DW snares but I have one more left in layaway and was gonna wait until I got that one out and post all eight of them in a few shots. As soon as I get a chance I'll try get a few quick shots of the 10+6!

Yeah, he had just bought a big Slingerland kit from the seventies with a 24" kick and it came with the DW snare. He felt that it didn't produce the deep gunshot snare sound he wanted so he felt like it was no use to even keep it. He already had the Pearl soprano and felt the same way about it. He was gonna trade the Pearl in to Guitar Center, but they only offered $80 for it which he felt was insulting.
He was gonna use the funds to buy an 8x14 but $80 wasn't close to enough. He was gonna give me the soprano and $225 for the free floated, and then he threw in DW to make it work without using cash... I happily obliged!
