    Default iPad apps

Now that I have access to an iPad -- it's my wife's, but I don't seem to have qualms about helping myself to it, much to her dismay -- I'm trying to find the best drum and recording related apps. So far, all I've picked up is Garage Band. Anyone have any other suggestions? If so, tell us a little something about it -- especially why you like it, what it can do, whether it's free, etc.

BTW, I'm especially looking for an app that would make it easy to record with an e-kit (like my Roland TD-4K). Thanks for taking the time to respond!

I use StudioMiniXL app on my iPad to record my drums. I have 2 SM57 overheads and snare mic as well as Peavey Tom mics and an Audix D6 in the kick feeding a Mackie mixer. I'm really happy with this app and you can premix the drums as well as sync the tracks via wifi if desired.

I thought this would be an interesting topic to DC users -- something out of the ordinary -- but it generated almost no response the first time around.

    So... *bump*

See if she fares any better on a second call....

We have an iPad and I have access to drum mics. What do I need to interface the two?

I have my drum mics feeding my Mackie mixer ( any mixer will do) and then the iPad receives its feed via the iMic, a $30 USB based interface that allows connection between the analog mixer and digital iPad. I also use StudioMiniXL app to record the mix.

I dont use my ipad to record my drums very often at all but I find it useful when recording my drums because I can use apps like 'entrackment' and there are others out there to use it as a control surface so I can have my mac in the next room or on the desk at the other side of the room and I don't need to press play and leap behind the drums as quickly as possible so I don't miss the start. I've used garageband to sequence drums but nothing seriously just playing around to be honest
