The best Sabian ride I have used was the 21" HH Raw Bell Dry Ride
Hello fellow DC'ers!
I'm starting to look for a new ride. I currently use Sabian all around and would like to keep it that way - everyone's got a little OCD, right?
Anyway, I currently use the AA 21" Rock Ride which I do like. However, quite a lot of the music I'm currently playing requires something that washes more. The AA has quite a nice ping and bell but I need something that will crash without digging into the cymbal too much or getting too loud.
The rest of my cymbal set up is:
13" AAX Fusion Hats
10 & 12" AAX Splashes
14, 16 & 18" AAXplosion Crashes
You've probably guessed that I like brilliant, glassy sounding cymbals.
At this point I'm looking for pointers from your collective experienec before going out a trying a few out. Joking aside, if there were an alternative manufacturer that would meet my requirements then they would be considered - I have used Zildjian in the past.
Many thanks in advance!

I own two rides at the moment, both Sabian, both 20" - one is an 83/84 vintage AA Rock Ride, and the other is an AAX Stage ride. If I could combine those two rides, THAT would be what I would really like.
The thing is, I LOVE the bow of the AAX Stage ride. It can be pingy, washy or anything in between. It's super versatile that way, although for ping, it could be just a tad more defined. By contrast, the old AA Rock Ride (think Zildjian Avedis Rock Ride - that's essentially what it is) has a fantastic bell and nicely defined ping, but the bow is a touch too dry. I wind up using that one the most because the kind of music I play dictates a lounder, harder ride sound, and I use the bell quite a bit.
I feel you dude - one day I hope to find THE ride that has a great combination of bell and bow, and I hope when I do it doesn't cost me an arm and a leg.

BTW...I have a 20" AA ride....I don't know the model as the ink has worn off. I'd guess it's a rock or medium as it's pretty pingy but has just the slightest touch of wash. Sounds very similar to an A Custom ping ride with just a hint more wash.
BFD, I have a 20" Sabian AAX Studio Ride that has a bright sound, and has a nice wash with some control - more wash at the edge, going to less wash as you move across the bow toward the bell. I had been playing it on my kit for a couple of years when I went to hear my drum teacher play, and I liked her ride so much, I asked her what she used. It turned out to be the same ride I had. I say that to let you know that it not only sounds good from the driver's seat, but also out front. I would put it on your list to check out.

You might want to try a 22" Paragon ride. It's on the pricey side as rides go, but they combine 2 of the 3 styles of cymbals that you like in the manufacturing process. With AA and AAX lathing, and HH hand hammering on the bell. They give out a robust, bright clear-cutting stick definition with a balanced blend of tone. And a clear, loud bell of decent size.

I was recently in almost the EXACT same situation as you. I've been using a 21" AA Rock ride for years which I love, but I started playing some music that called for a ride that was more crashable and had more wash than the rock ride. I went with a 21" HHX Groove ride. I've had it for a few weeks and I'm absolutely loving it so far. It's nice and washy but not too much so, it crashes REALLY well and it has a great bell too. I'd check it out if I were you! Good luck on finding the right cymbal.

The AA El Sabor Ride has some wash, a great bell, and is crashable. Peace, goodwill, and blues.

My Sabian line has a 20" AAX Stage Ride included in it as well. I agree with trickg's opinion about the AAX stage ride; it's got a nice bow but rather washy and a bit gongy for my tastes.
I like a nice 'ping' sound and favor my 20" Zildjian A ping ride over the AAX stage ride.
I had one at one point and I kind of wish I still had it. I only paid $80 for it used, and I flipped it and made a tidy profit. At the time I also had my AAX Stage ride and I found that most of the time I was using that instead, so I flipped it as part of the stuff I sold off when I was pulling the cash together for my SMX.
