Recording setup
Hey guys! Long time no see! I just wanted to share of my
observations on recording!
First, my equipment:
(Drums in signature)
Mixman dm2 (Working on hacking for use as a midi controller)
M-audio fast track USB interface
Tascam portastudio 424 mkII
Phonic 4 channel pa
Ableton live
Audacity
BaxterEQ
Auto-tune Evo VST
dynamic vocal mics (2)
Second, connections
The dm2 is USB into the computer, and the fast track is also. I have the 2 mics plugged into the pa ( eq'ed with pa settings) then the mix from the p/a is sent to the fast track's XLR input. If I want analog sound, I'll connect the pa to the portastudio and then the portastudio to the fast track. I have the speakers disconnected while recording, and have a 1/4 inch to headphone adapter plugged into the mixer output with an extension so I can monitor the mix while recording. (ghetto in-ear monitors)
Finally, post production.
I have ableton and audacity, and I'll typically monitor the mic through the output of the fast track to a headphone. I'll usually auto-tune my drums, just to correct any bad overtones, and I'll use BaxterEQ to get a good sound.
I know it's not much, but that's my studio for you!
