    That video is brilliant!

I've been all up in the big, open resonating tom train of thought for a while but almost every time I'm in the studio the engineers are wanting less resonation. It might be time to try something like either of those heads!

The difference isn't huge. It might be the speakers you're using too. To me the tone just dropped a slight bit when switching to the black heads, especially on the lower toms. The overall attack and sound character remain the same as far as I can tell!

That has to be one of the best side-by-side tom demos I've seen!

The attack and overall character of the G14's and Black Chromes are very similar but there is a noticable drop in tone on the Black Chromes.

Awesome video. I wish more comparison videos were like that. Both heads sound great. If you're looking for a heavy low sound you can't go wrong with either.

Not bad. I thought it would have been a little more effective to hear the whole set's head swap vs one head changing at a time. It was sorta hard to follow.

I wonder what the dynamic range is like on them.

Not a fan of heads that need to be totally belted to produce tone and then sound like plastic at low force.

    all the best...

I agree. I would probably love these heads for recording though.

I also don't care for black heads. After some wear, the shiny Remo Ebony heads on my toms lost their visual luster. The Remo Black Suede head on my 16x16 floor tom held up better than the Ebony heads.

Does it really matter how they look? No one can see except you. I think all that matters is the sound. If you like that deep, punchy sound, then go for it.

Why is it that most of the time, it takes a head dipped in a black coating to become "deeper"? There seems to be a special consideration towards black heads offering that characteristic versus other coated heads. I don't get how ebony coating is any deeper sounding than white coating?

I'm not crazy about how they sound. But each to their own. I'm def hooked on either a clear G2 or coated G1.

I'm curious to hear how they sound vs Evans' Onyx heads. I put a set of those on one of my kits (the OCDP) a couple months ago and was surprised at how dead they were vs the EC2s I replaced. I was able to get them to sound good pretty easily, and they can certainly take a beating--they've been some of the most durable heads I've used. I may take the Onyx off and save them for the studio. I think the next heads I try may be the G14--I liked the GPlus when I tried them a while back, so I don't really expect a great deal of difference between them.

    From Evans site:
    "
Evans™ Black Chrome batter heads are the ultimate in depth of sound. Featuring a two-ply combination of a 7mil clear top and a 7.5mil black bottom, the Evans Black Chrome series has a robust tone with accentuated mid-to-low frequency response. With extreme durability and clarity of sound, these ideas or ideal for the heaviest of hitters."

"Evans™ Onyx™ series features two plies of 7.5mil film that will deliver enhanced durability while make the drums cut live. A Frost coating gives the Onyx heads a matte black appearance and increases low-end response and attack."

The Black Chrome heads are .5mil thinner than the Onyx. I've never tried them as a batter head but I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Onyx reso for the kick.

Wow, looks like the Black Chrome heads are already misunderstood by several on this post. Thanks to the few who've actually tried them, then commented, and to the few that actually looked at, or knew, the specs on these heads.
I'll be happy to post after I receive mine in a week.
