Great kits Kickman! It does look like a practice room, with the rest of the band facing you for practice, right?

Yes we are recording in this room, mostly just the drum tracts, we will play live and send the PA mix to one track for referencing, then send MIDI to another track for the drum tracts. This is working out pretty good, and then I take each section and dissect it and do the parts to a more desired composition. This is my first time doing this type of recording and I like it simply because I can concentrate on individual parts and play back what I am doing and make adjustments.

Leigh, I like the kit. The finish reminds me of my own kit. Maybe you could tell us about the sound of a Eucalyptus shell. BTW, you could be seen just for a second at the beginning of the guitar solo! Great job on the drums!

Unhappy Leigh's Missing 'Show Your Drums' Post

    Hi Bob,

I was actually hoping the audio would be a good guide:

    http://leighmusician.multiply.com/mu..._Audio_Samples

Speaking of my actual post...I'm slightly confused...since I couldn't find it (I tried looking for it on Pages 186-188). Has it been formally approved yet?

Default Rehearsal Kit - 2008 Moorebank Carols

[While waiting for my previous post to be approved, I thought I'd include an alternative set-up that I've used in the past]

Kit set-up for the duration of Carol Rehearsals:

1.) 14" Sabian Hats (I hadn't taken the time to check out the series, but as you can see in the picture there are vent holes---top and bottom switched over)
2.) 14" (x5.5" I think) Steel Snare - Coated Remo Pinstripe on Batter
3.) 22" kick (Clear Powerstroke 3 on Batter, and the inside is filled with corrugated foam and a small quilt) and 16" Tom (I didn't like how the 12" tom sounded---plus the owner didn't want the heads changed...so I shelved it during all the rehearsals) - Clear Remo Pinstripe on batter (I thought the tom sounds amazing! And that's from me...a non-prinstripe fan)

Here's a snap of the driver's seat view of the kit:

    * And Also to note, I have no idea what the drums are (brand), but they appear to be close to the Power Beat Starter Kit (not that there are any Maple Power Beat Kits!), and the shells seemed made of Melamine (see photo below). So I guess it goes to show...that sometimes you don't have to have the best drums money can buy...tweaking a simple starter kit would do wonders (listen to the audio files to decide)

Here's a pic of roughly what the material looks like:

4.) 16" Sabian HHX Evolution Crash
5.) 20" Paiste Ride (If I'm not mistaken...it should be from the Colorsound Series)
6.) Pearl Eliminator Remote Hi-Hat Stand (Chain Driven with Red Cam)
7.) Pearl Eliminator Single Pedal (Belt Driven with Blue Cam)

    Items 1, 2, 3, and 5 aren't mine.

And a snap closing in on the pedals:

So here's my latest setup. Using a 10,12,16 with the toms offset. Still struggling with the ride cymbal location.

I'm thinking that if I get a double tom stand, I can lose the tom mount on the kick, which will make more room for bringing in the ride closer and flatter. Seem like the right move? Just started using this setup after 20+ years of a typical 5 and 6 piece setup.

Nice kit as always Kaosotis!! And I like your thinking!! I would try getting the double tom stand to get that sweet ride placement...and for my 2 cents you also get pics to help you out. Below is the most recent set up of my DWs, using a double tom stand...ride cymbal over the kick drum. Additionally, here is a pic of the green monster. In the first pic you can see the full rack with three over the kick...but below that I have broken it down to a simple 1 up 2 down to get that awesome ride cymbal placement you are talking about. To do this I just used a snare stand for tom one. If just using 1 up and 1 down or 1 up 2 down is something you would use a simple snare stand does the trick as well.

    Hope this helps!!

RHD, the first setup is what I'm looking for (minus the extra FT I don't have).

If I can pull the cost, I'll have to get a double tom stand.

Otherwise I'm thinking of dropping down to a 4 piece, just using the 12" on the stand, but not sure I really want to do that. I'm sure it would be fine, but some of the stuff we play works better with two rack toms.

If I get it set up better, I'll post some new pics. The kit has been knocked down for over a month while the bassist gets his downstairs organized (practice space). That pic is from our show at the end of May. Fortunately still have my son's Superstars and the e-kit in the house.
