I actually tried it with black alphas but liked the normal versions better, haha that and some ebony heads would look pretty good actually!

Also the double kicks are great but a pain to tune right... all it needs is one lug to be a quarter of a turn different and theyre out of sync! haha i'll get them right one day

TZ, I agree that's a beautiful kit! Normally, I'm not that into the black, but with all the black hardware, including the stands, that kit looks great.

Finally after a year of buying this and buying that step by step I have my kit together and ready to play. Now all I need is a place to play...lol.

Yeah, I havent even played them yet. How crazy is that?.
I wont be able to play them untill my PR drum bags get here (hopefully by wednesday) because I cant bang on em in this neighborhood.

I'm gonna have to do the whole Craigslist thing looking for a studio to play in and/or band to jam with.

    Oh well, hopefully soon.

I still have plenty of add ons to go but its finally ready to play.

So what do you all think?...You likey?.

Well after those two beautiful kits, I'm going to lower the tone a bit with my tatty old effort. It's probably one of the poorest kits here, but it was finding this cheap (£60 for the lot except the throne and music stand, which is about $95) which changed 20 years of just thinking about being a drummer into reality. So without my aged friend here I would never have discovered how much I love doing this, which makes it a very special kit indeed. Well for me anyway!

Basic kit is a Pearl Forum, it looks black in most of the pics but is actually a deep green (Looks like British Racing Green). The snare is a Pearl Steel Shell. 16" crash and 20" Ride are both Paiste 302, the crash has a nasty crack which is still growing even after I drilled it. The hats are unknown, but my tutor suspects Pearl Wilds. My first upgrade when I have some more cash will be the cymbals. Probably to second hand Paiste Alphas (Rock if poss) all round with a second crash.

I've made a few changes since I picked it up. The remo heads it came with were all shot, so those are Aquarian Performance IIs, which was simply the cheapest set the local shop could do me. The original Remo resonant heads are still on, as are the bass heads.

Other than that, I got a stand to hold the rack toms instead of using the bass drum. I'm 6'4 with really long legs and I just found it impossible to comfortably place the toms when the bass drum was the right distance away.

The only other addition was the music stand attached to the tom stand (this may not survive when I get more cymbals). The layout diagram on the wall was provided by my six year old son.

You can't really see it, but the room is really small. When playing my left elbow sometimes bounces on the wall to my left, and the door is right behind me on the other side. In fact the floor tom is really too close and doesn't leave much space for my leg to get to the kick pedal, but if I move it out any further the door hits it when it opens! The mirror in the corner is so I can see people coming in behind me, as my wife and kids scared the hell out of me a few times!

Anyway, that's my set, thanks for indulging me. You can go back to the sweet stuff now.

Thanks alot guys, I really appreciate the compliments.

bgdrum, yeah theyre 8",10",12",14",22" with 14x5.5" snare.

FT, yes it is all the Zildjian A cymbal pack.

    14" New Beat Hats
    20" Med Ride
    16" Med Thin Crash
    18" Med Thin Crash
    And Cymbal Bag

Just about perfect for me to start.

Cymbals to add on still are another Crash and China with stands and two Splashes with boom arms.
Not to mention a Pork Pie Little Squeeler 13x7" snare, a double kick pedal and new heads.

It took me a year to do what you see so who knows how long it will take to do the rest.

    Thanks again.

TPO, I totally agree with KO. Any kit that helps us progress as drummers should be respected. On some sites, you'll find some people that will choose to flame others for any number of reasons, but you won't find that here. Play 'em proud brother!

Thanks for the nice comments folks. I definitely appreciate what I've got, in fact my only regret is not having a try 20 years ago! But c'est la vie.

The drums themselves sound ok to me, certainly good enough for my current standard and then some. The cymbals are pretty poor though and I can't wait to get them swapped out. I think I'll have a pretty reasonable starter kit then. Have to wait till xmas though, so here's hoping that crash stays in one piece till then! Trying to play AC/DC without a crash could be difficult
