The air splashes are great and very punchy. They work well if you are doing quick bass drum accents and you can splash with them. They also work well if you're doing a hi-hat or ride pattern and you want to use a splash as an offbeat or syncopated pattern. It will be interesting to see how they blend with the HHX 8" and 10" splashes. My new HHX cymbals will be here on Tuesday.

I heard them when mike portnoy demoed them. As a fan of him, I often do that sort of thing. May need to look into them!

If you listen to the Rush song "Manhattan Project" off their Power Windows album in the second verse you can hear Neil do an offbeat kind of thing between the hi-hats and a splash cymbal. That sound reminds me a lot of what the 8" Air Splash sounds like.

My current project: NOS Slingerland Concert King/Studio King kit in white marine pearl. A full description of the kit is posted in the Slingerland section, but in summary my new (straight from the factory boxes new) 7-piece Slingerland kit which I received in three different finished (all gloss poly). These were then wrapped in Slingerland/Delmar white marine pearl. Since the pics were taken, I've added a 10" Studio King tom to the mix. The snare is a 3-ply maple 5.5 X 14 with Zoomatic strainer and cast hoops, and it really POPS!

    Thanks for looking.

You are welcome sir. If Slingerland were making drums today, I'd likely be buying them. I had a BDP Conroy Slingerland kit a few years back. I currently own a 1990s Nashville Super Radio King snare drum that I love, as well as a Slingerland kit from 1966 and two from the seventies. I play mostly Gretsch USA kits these days, but Slingerland was my first love in drums.

I saw a double bass White version of that kit online. The owner said he liked the black one but it was easier to get extra shells with the white ones.

As far as I know only 5 of these "Redline" kits made it into the UK. I never knew they existed before I saw this one.

Been looking for a 10" tom for this since I bought it. In the end I have had to order one direct from Pearl. The black kits do seem harder than the white ones to get extras for.

GeeDeeEmm, I love the White Marine Pearl! I recently gave a 4 piece Gretsch Catalina Elite jazz kit to a friend, and it was wrapped in White Marine Pearl. I just think that is such a cool look.
