What do you currently have your trigger settings set (i.e., velocity, gain, curve & level) to? That will definitely make a difference in how a pad triggers...also, what module are you using?

using the Yamaha DTX550k

with a USB to MIDI cable plugged directly into my Macbook using Garageband.
