love the set but the high hat is kind of a dud. Any way to make it louder?

I had a friend with the same complaint ... My yammie was fine and we were both on stock settings . I tried his kit with my Audio Technica ATH- M50 phones and the problem was the lack of high end response on his phones.
I believe he bought a pair of AKG after that and everything's cool.
You can make adjustments to the individual pads via the rather clunky interface ( unlike the DTX-700)... I would dig out the user manual for the exact steps... Unless someone here remembers off the top of their head

If your kit is anything like my DD-502 which is a really inexpensive electronic kit, I can adjust the volume on any device through the control panel. The user manual should give you the details on doing that.

Have you tried adjusting the volume on the hihat individually..page 15 of your manual shows you how to do this…there is also a master volume, but if all your other pads are at a volume you like it's probably not a master volume issue..
