Funk Drumming

A guy I know plays in a funk/rock/whatever else band called The Main Squeeze. He is an absolutely fantastic drummer. He has been a huge inspiration for me (the reason I bought the drums I have and the reason I first got a sand ride). They recently won a battle of the bands that took place in China and the drumming is simply spectacular so I thought I'd post!

I love that he smiles all the while he plays. You can "hear" it in the groove. Kinda like when I was a telemarketer in my youth. They would tell us that the person on the other end could hear your smile over the phone. This kind of material demands a positive vibe, and this kid's got that part just naturally, it seems to me.
I also love the bass player. He uses the five string to really cool effect.

i've really thought about doing this, purely because I think it sounds cool! I don't think it'd work for the styles I play though.
