I'm looking for some good jazz and funk to listen to. Looking for bands that don't have a ton of horns and that have feeling. Can anyone recommend anything?

Try listening to The Meters. Really tasty funk with some jazz influences. Good stuff. A real drummer's playground.

Check out Lettuce-one of my all time favorites. Adam Deitch on drums-seriously sick pocket drumming. Also check out The Reign of Kindo-modern jazz/rock, excellent musicianship.

How far back in jazz/funk do you want to go? From the early 80's into the early to mid 90's, the UK and a couple of other places had some great jazz/funk groups.

You should also check these guys out, Mezzoforte, from Iceland. They've been around since the late 70's, in various lineups.....this video's some of their much later stuff....I got to hear of their stuff years ago by some European friends of mine.

Hadn't heard Mezzoforte. That's good stuff right there. Sort of reminds me of Spyro Gyra.

John Scofield, on Groove Elation, great stuff there, For Funk, no better than Kool and the Gang and George Clinton. And Early RHCP if you're into funk, rock/rap.
