    Question Which heads to choose

I have an 8 piece Yamaha Stage Advantage kit that has clear Yamaha heads presently and they just seem to have to much resonance especially the bass drum. I am looking into replacing them with Evans Onyx 2 black hydraulics with an Evans Emad for the bass drum however after reading some posts about the hydraulic heads I am a little hesitant. I am very open to suggestions about differant heads for playing rock that sound good any help would be greatly appreciated !!

I'm not a big fan of the hydraulic heads. I used them in the 80's but now I like a more live sound from my kit. I use Evans G2 coated heads when I want live resonating toms. I use Evans EC2 clears when I want a bit less resonance. I use Evans EQ3 clears on my kick drums. I don't use any muffling at all.

Before you buy new heads make sure you've tuned everything as best as you can.
Case in point: my kick batter is a 22" Super Kick II, reso is ported, Remo Ambassador and I wasn't getting the "boom" I expected from its 18" depth. So I tightened the reso and it got better. Then I tightened the batter way more than I thought necessary and then it boomed! Counterintuitive, I thought, but then no head resonates if it's barely tight, right?
