I was searching around online and I found these for sale, I was wondering what the person could have done to make them look like that. Is it something he tried to use to clean them? Does anyone have any ideas?

Thats what I thought at first but comparing them to other sets of the same hats they have a yellowy tint, and the bottom of one of them is covered in black, normally I would say it's just unlathed, but the bottoms of these aren't supposed to look like that I don't think. Oh well, it's probably no big deal, I was just wondering haha, thanks for your response.

Never seen that before. But it looks like to me that whatever he used the last time he cleaned them made them oxidize to that strange looking yellow tint. Or he didn't rinse them well enough. You can tell it was a cleaning adventure by the wiping marks. I don't get the black on the bottom of that one cymbal though, unless it's just the lighting the camera picked up. Looks as though the finger marks took off whatever he tried to "clean" them with uncovering the true color. I don't know, looks a little scary, but it looks like it will come off with a proper cleaning judging by the fingerprints. If they are a good price, I would do it. Good luck.

I'm definitely thinking that the black is reflection of something dark. I do agree, however, that it seems to have a weird tint.

I'd bet he cleaned them with a vinegar based window cleaner....or didn't wipe them down good enough when he used groove juice or something similar.

Buy them and clean them again....I never had an issues with those smears being permanent.

lousy chemicals and lackluster work ethic, they can shine again.

Like EddieV said, just oxidation from the chemical cleaners not being properly washed off. The "black" looking cymbal is just the chemical compound that lifted the patina off and dried while never being wiped clean. You'll need a bit of 'elbow grease' to wipe them clean and they'll shine up really nice!!

Those are prototypes from one of the past year's Sabian Cymbal Vote competetion (the 2013 one is going on already, google it) whoever is selling them must have won the contest. There's a cleaner I used once, it had cloth Pre dipped in cymbal cleaner that you tear off and it comes in a can. It took of dirt and patina really easily. Ive also used goo be gone on some ZBTs as a cleaning test and it took off all the other cleaner I had been using so that's a last ditch option. I think these are 16" high hats by the way. As for the bottom that's a classic unlathed bottom. I'd search around for some sound files if I was you. Hope this helps

I see that you live in Newfoundland, Bye the geez! I am just wondering... how close do you live to the ocean?
Some of my cymbals have developed a similar hue. I attribute it to a combo of lime and salt.

    all the best...

I live in St. Johns so it's somewhat close to the ocean. But these are being sold online and it's not anywhere around here, but it's still a possibility.

These are the 14" x-plosion hats, the come in both 14" and 16" I think. And I don't think it's a unlathed bottom because i've seen other ones where they're just a brilliant or natural finish, I don't think it comes in different finishes. At least for now because they're not actually on the market yet.
