I've heard nothing but good things about them. However, I haven't heard or played one before. I'm sure someone on DC has and will provide some info.

any particular one?
No but i prefer deep snare's
Why is it you want a Black Panther if there's not one in particular that you'd like?
Never heard a single Black Panther I wouldn't love to own. Can't go wrong with the series.

I have 2 Black Panther snares.
There's the "Panther" which is 14"x5" solid steel. Very loud when it needs to be, but also gives a lot of definition softer playing.
My other snare is a 12"x7" Maple/Cherry, which was the one that came free with the ProM kits in their "buy the kit, get the cat" offer a few years back.
It's actually my favourite snare. Great loud pop when tuned high, plus it's also a lot lighter to carry around than the "Panther" .
The "Fastback" is the new version of this, but is made of only Maple.
Mapex Armory - Photon Blue
Mapex VXB kit - Transparent Black
Mapex & Pearl snares
Paiste Alpha & RUDE cymbals
Remo & Vater
I have a Cherry Bomb and this, You won't regret getting any BP snare:
Had a rented kit on the road a while back. Came with a sledge hammer and a velvetone. Both great snares. Can't go wrong with a Panther. There's sound clips on the mapex site.
I have a makeshift Black Panther. Mapex MPX 8 x 14 maple I added die cast hoops and a DW mag throw.
LOVE IT
I got mine off e bay, e bay has 2 on there right now from the same seller for 129 OBO with free shipping, Hoops and throw were from drum factory direct online, hoops were about 90 throw was 40 or so die cast butt plate was about 7 and it was an easy project. My 14 x 10 was another story.

I've got 2 Black Panther snares, and I would recommend them to anyone.
13x6 Black Panther Special Edition Cherry/Maple
14x5.5 Black Panther Deep Forest Cherry - This one is my go-to snare.

i'd own one, heard nothing but greatness.
I have the Black Widow. Very decent snare for the price but sounds its best at higher tuning, in my view.
I'd also like a slighter deeper snare for another option.
I have a 14 x 6.5" Maple-Walnut hybrid Black Panther and I love it! It looks amazing and sounds awesome. I couldn't recommend them highly enough, and there's definitely one for whatever sound you're going for!
I have a 6.5 x 14" Black Panther Birdseye Maple snare and it's on my top 3 list of favorite snare.

Sweet, thanks for the info. I'll definitely be getting one then, once money comes in...
EDIT: And I bought one. I look forward to finding some Meridian hardware to put on it.
