I've heard nothing but good things about them. However, I haven't heard or played one before. I'm sure someone on DC has and will provide some info.

Well I did post that 8 x 14 maple black panther on your other snare thread, just go to e bay and type in mapex 8 x 14. I love deep snares too, I really like my 14 x 10 pearl custom.

Why is it you want a Black Panther if there's not one in particular that you'd like?

Never heard a single Black Panther I wouldn't love to own. Can't go wrong with the series.

I have 2 Black Panther snares.

There's the "Panther" which is 14"x5" solid steel. Very loud when it needs to be, but also gives a lot of definition softer playing.

My other snare is a 12"x7" Maple/Cherry, which was the one that came free with the ProM kits in their "buy the kit, get the cat" offer a few years back.
It's actually my favourite snare. Great loud pop when tuned high, plus it's also a lot lighter to carry around than the "Panther" .
The "Fastback" is the new version of this, but is made of only Maple.

Had a rented kit on the road a while back. Came with a sledge hammer and a velvetone. Both great snares. Can't go wrong with a Panther. There's sound clips on the mapex site.

I got mine off e bay, e bay has 2 on there right now from the same seller for 129 OBO with free shipping, Hoops and throw were from drum factory direct online, hoops were about 90 throw was 40 or so die cast butt plate was about 7 and it was an easy project. My 14 x 10 was another story.

I have the Black Widow. Very decent snare for the price but sounds its best at higher tuning, in my view.

I'd also like a slighter deeper snare for another option.

That's the next snare I'm planning to buy since they don't make a Meridian 14x8. Is it 8 lug or 10 lug?
