Default First Drum Kit Buying Help

Ok, so I posted a topic a few days ago asking for help with buying my first drum kit and I got a lot of good advice... I also asked my drum teacher and he also said find a good used drum set.

    Tama Superstar

Now obviously I'm not going to buy anything without getting advice from experienced drummers first. So I wanted to know if this is a good drumset to buy and even if this isn't a perfect one and I shouldn't get this one, is this the type of drumset I should be looking for? or am I looking for the completely wrong kit?

Thanks for any advice I get I really appreciate everyone helping me out.

*Jelly Rollz, the Forum Rules prohibit commercial (retail) links, so I removed the link, but I gave you the picture of the kit. - PB*

What you have there is a Tama Rockstar which they don't make anymore I believe. If my memory serves me correctly, they are birch kits, I used to have one, exactly like that.

I find it hard to believe that you are finding most used sets to cost the same as a new one. Also for kits I'd prob go craigslist because you don't want to do any shipping costs plus you want to see it in person beforehand.

i'd be happy to give you some assistance if you want to pm me some kits you were looking at

I had a Tama Rockstar in the early 90's, looked a lot like that one. I loved that kit. You can make a Rockstar/Superstar sound terrific if you put good heads on it and tune it properly.

    Roland TDW-20

JellyRollz, there are others on here that have Superstar kits and they love them. I would put this kit at the upper end of the intermediate range (beginner - intermediate - pro).

If it's a Superstar made in the last few years before they discontinued the line in 2010, then it's all birch, with the Star Cast mounting system and Diecast rims. I got mine as a leftover brand new in box for a steal, and I could not be happier with it! Great build quality and awesome sound, especially after I changed the stock heads.
