Default Drum stuff so cheap in USA

    Hey all

Cant wait – on 14th April my daughter and I are heading from Australia to NYC for a week and then back to the West Coast for 2 weeks.
I cant believe how CHEAP some drum stuff ( heads , sticks, everything ! ) is over there.

Damn shame our suitcase cant fit a Kick drum head in it as we pay $80++++++++++ out here and sometimes way more.
I am planning to buy 3 or 4 full sets of various heads , sticks, and some lower end Hi Hats ( as I want to run a 2nd set on my right ) and I will probably spend all my holiday money in drum shops !

Depends on how long you stay and how much you spend. As a Canadian I know I can claim at least $1K duty free if I'm in the USA for a week. Australia can't be that different.

Here in Bahamas, everything is almost exactly doubled by the time it's in my hands. That's air freight, customs tax and brokerage fees. Really keeps G.A.S under control.

    all the best...

Good to see you again Wotto, and I hope you and your daughter will have a great time on your visit to our little corner of the world. Sounds like you'll need an extra suitcase, and a list that you can check twice!

    Hey PB

    Long time huh !
In a nutshell , and I know DC dudes will relate/ appreciate this .......we have had a couple of 'ordinary' years medically with our ( now 17YO ) daughter, hence a major part of my lack of attention to my 2 hobbies, drumming and pinball restoration. Last year was tough for her and she is now 1000% fine.

We did visit the states as a family in 2011 and ( like us ) she loved the place.
So to give her a nice goal to look forward to throughout her bad times last year I told her that she and I would spend a week together in NYC, somewhere she has been longing to go to. So this upcoming April trip is quite an emotional trip as well as , what should be a great holiday.

I will also be on the West Coast ( La, Vegas, SDO, SFO ) for 2 weeks after that with a mate of mine doing ( another ) pinball trip.
My daughter flies home to OZ after the week in NYC.

All of that AND I get to visit US drum shops and buy cheap stuff – cant lose

I finally look forward to spending more time and hopefully contributing back here at DC as I have truly missed the fun

Sorry to hear your daughter had some rough years, and what a cool dad that you gave her a such a nice goal to focus toward. It will be a bond between you guys that will never go away.

sometimes us Americans forget how really good we have it here until someone brings this up! maybe all of us need to think about that now and then. As far as BD heads can't you by a pack and have Drum shop find a box and then check it in as baggage? not a carry on. good luck and have fun in NYC ( just do not by any watch's from a street vendor..haha)

Have a safe trip wotto and hope you don't get disappointed with buying in the great U.S.A cause I am a neighbour and don't buy there cause by the time you get it home would of been cheaper to buy it online in Canada. Hope it turns out to be a great experience for you.

I think the last pair of drumstick I bought were like 7.00 for a pair of 5A maple Los Cabos. So I think that they are decent price.

I can get 12 pairs of promark sticks sent from Ohio to Ireland @ $86 for the sticks and $15 postage through USPS..Total $101 ..To buy them in Ireland it's €144 euro which comes in at around $192 ..So it's a no brainer for me to buy them in the U.S. and get the posted back.

Out here, that would get you a pair of the most crooked pair of Vic Firth Novas…

I bought a Sabian HHX Evo crash pack from the states for around $675 inc. shipping, included 17" and 19" crashes and a 16" Ozone. In Oz, I would pay about that just for the Ozone..
