I met him a few years ago in Seattle.
That snare looks like a hammered Ludwig. brass or bronze.
Drummer: Alan White
Main Style: Progressive Rock, Pop Rock, Hard Rock.
Main Band: Yes
Brief Summary: Born on June 14, 1949 is an English rock drummer known for his work with the progressive rock band Yes. White was also a member of the Plastic Ono Band in 1969. White has also appeared on over fifty albums with artists including John Lennon, George Harrison, Joe ****er, Ginger Baker, and The Ventures.
In 1972, White was touring with Joe ****er when he received an invitation to join Yes, to replace Bill Bruford who had left to join King Crimson. Three days after meeting with Jon Anderson and Chris Squire, White played at the first show of the group's U.S. Close to the Edge tour. It was a major challenge for him to learn the band's live set in just three days. White and the band gave each other three months to see if he fitted in, and some 40 years later, he has appeared on every Yes album since.
I have always loved his snare sound and have tried numerous times to emulate it.

Just gotta bump this thread guys.
I've been getting into Yes again after almost forgetting about them. The 2 albums I've been checking out is 90125 and Big Generator.
Alan is such a monster player and his snare (props to wolvie for bringing this up) is absolutely huge.
I have no idea what snare he used through that period, but it is slammin'.

I'm sad to announce that Alan White of the infamous band, YES, has left us. It was reported about an hour ago. Man, this guy was legendary and influenced so many drummers of my generation. R.I.P. drum brother!
