It looks like he doesn't have a resonant head on the right (looking at the picture) kick in the second picture. Do you know why he didn't have one on there?

I see what you mean both bass drums on the second picture have no reso heads at all cause you can see the tom posts . I am sure he had his reasons for it. Some drummers back then never used reso heads I know cause I never did in the 70's made them louder I guess..

...and deader. PA systems being what they were..and this was the era when drums weren't supposed to sound like drums.

Funny...he was probably my first influence for drumming. Played very simply and sparingly...and used a gigantic kit!
    DW drums and Paiste cymbals.

Thanks MCX. That's what I was thinking, but I hadn't seen a kick without a reso before.

Not to be a downer here, but I don't ever spell out the name of G*d either in writing for religious reasons. Perhaps this is the case.

You're not a downer. To each his own. I have no problem with it. Wish I could discuss but want to stay within the rules of the forum.

I respect your decision either way.

No problem. I was just pointing out maybe that's why Slinglander chose to type it that way. Just speculating.
