And happy birthday to you![]()
Last week, my wife asked what she could get me for my birthday. I said "a DW mag throw-off and a 3 position butt plate"
I was met with a blank stare. I wrote it down and told her to try our local music store and not the franchise place. On
Saturday, she went there and showed the salesperson what she wanted, and he told her "We don't have any in stock,
we'll have to order it. When do you need it by?" She said "Well, his birthday is Monday..." He promptly took a brand
new snare drum out of stock, disassembled it and wrapped up the throw-off and butt plate and told her "tell him Happy
Birthday". Yeah, these guys are alright!

Now that's going above and beyond, in my opinion. Great shop. Continue to shop there!
That's what you want in a local shop.
cheers Mark

Thank you Chatters for the kind B-Day wishes.
You're correct, Pearl MCX Man, it was NOT GC!
Great customer service story, and happy birthday Commander! BTW, your wife sounds like a pretty cool lady. You are fortunate on both accounts!

thats cool that the store did that for you. Ironically the same thing happened to me the other day when i went to buy snare wire. They didn't have any of the snare wire i wanted in stock and weren't getting anymore till the next day. So the guy pulled the wire off one of the snares on a floor kit and gave it to me. Customer service makes the world go round lol.

Great service, win one for the local guys. I figure they were so willing to do it because it's easy enough for them to get the part replaced?

That's what I love about local and small businesses. Most take the time to get to know a customer and help in ways that larger, big-box and franchises don't or can't. I would (and do) pay slightly higher prices at the local music shop I have been going to for 15 years. They will match or come close to on-line and big-box or franchise stores but even if I have to pay a little more I would rather support my local shop and have piece of mind about them backing the product and providing great customer service. And in the events that I do pay more for some things there are benefits from being loyal. I have occasionally received discounts or free things (parts, sticks, smaller items) and the camaraderie and personal relationships are priceless.
