I recently got a Pearl Ashtone wood block and I really like it, but I cannot figure out where or how you are supposed to attach it to your drum kit. Does anyone have anything like this that could help me out?

Here is a picture showing the mounting system.

You have to get tension brace bracket, holder or L rod mount. You would normally attach it to the cymbal stand or any place that feels comfy. they are about the same price as your wood block. Hope it helps or u can make something if your pretty handy u can always google for ideas or ask this awesome community

    Olimpass,

What is the purple thingy in your post? I've never seen one of those.

    Thanks,

Hi Al, that's an LP Guiro Block. I believe it's the largest of the LP Jam block series. Doubles as a guiro.

LP make an excellent Mini Hold-All holder that can attach to any cymbal stand and comes with two Z-arms, which allow many single or multiple items to be mounted.

And another thing to consider is a Tama mini-clamp like this. I have three of these (which in this picture I've passed three mini-boom arms through) and I also have four which have L-rods for attaching cymbals (some of those are in the previous picture that I posted). The clamp itself is listed as the MC5, with a cymbal L-rod it's the CYA5E....but what you might need is the one with the L-rod arm, the CBA5. Highly recommend this sort of clamp, it's very flexible indeed:

I liike mine in the general proximity of the snare at 2 o'clock so I can use it to make killer rim clicks.
I mount mine on my 26 bass right on the hoop with regular post bracket. On my smaller bass, I mount it all with cowbell on a Z post coming off my floor tom.

    all the best...

Nooooooooo! Use anything other than those evil potentially damaging hoop mounts. Where does the force of the strike on the block transfer to? Your hoop. Don't do it.

I agree totally with wolvie, do not attach anything to your BD hoops.

Oh well. That ship has sailed. I got all kinds of stuff on my 26 bass drum hoops. They used to do that back in the 20's and 30's. Funny, there's so many of them still around and nothing wrong with the hoops.

    all the best...

I've seen more than a few that were cracked. Attaching anything to the hoops can be asking for trouble.

I guess it would depend a lot on how hard your hitting the device, and if there was any cushion just under the mounting surface. But no matter the force, every hit gars the plies and loosens the glue. It's just physics.

I somewhat agree with this. If it's a vintage/wood hoop with an inlay, probably not a great idea (a small piece of cardboard over and under the hoop would help before clamping). Metal hoop, no big deal.
There are also bass drum spurs that clamp on the reso side hoop that are cool.
If you're in a punk band and the lead singer stands on your reso side hoop to jump off from it, you probably don't worry about these things.

DW's hoop clamp is better. It clamps around the bass drum head and the hoop, meaning that the force is distributed, not directed to the spot where the clamp stops gripping on to the hoop like the older hoop clamps. Plus the thing won't slip off the hoop, causing rash and possible damage to your clamped gear or kick drum.

The only two constants I have are DW and Zildjian.
