Rolling Stones arnt for everyone, but lasting as long as they have, must be for a lot of people, so deserve respect for it.
Celebs are always in the public eye and need to know that, comes with the territory, they have to adjust. Simple. If he truly had class, he wouldnt react so badly.
Congrats to Rush for getting into the Hall!

First of all, congrats to Rush, my fav band of all time. Can't wait to see them in July. I could write a novel on why I love them.
Anyway, I met Neil when he and Michael Mosbach (head of security and Neils riding partner on tour) stopped at the Target I used to work at. I just quietly introduced myself, said I was greatly moved by his work, and that he, Ged and Al have done wonders for my life. He shook my hand with a very genuine smile, very graciously said "Thank you, that is the highest compliment I could ever recieve," (Michael then told me that he taught Neil everything he knows), we all 3 chuckled, and I told them to have a nice evening and walked off. He was very sincere and kind, it was just a 60 second encounter, and I was very calm and collected.

Over the years, I've had the good fortune to meet a few "famous" people.
Most of the time it was by pure accident. Most are pretty nice, but there are a couple that I could have done without.
Agree with BTM on Cobham. Met him about 30 years ago and he was in love with himself then.
The worst is a guy I knew from being in bands as teenagers. I went into the service for 4 years, he got famous.
About '74 or so, we did a thing together. Didn't turn out good, for him. Now he's up there with the drum gods, and, in reality he's a piece of ****.
He has threatened to sue me over what happened, and fired his roadie/assistant because he laughed about it.
There are a few bums up there.
This is not the kind of first post I wanted to start off with, but I really felt like i should say something.
I have lurked here for a long time, mostly just looking at the pics of kits, especially tama (just got a starclassic performer)
For whatever reason I have posted mostly on drummerworld. I have found that community to be very helpful whenever I have a technical question, as well as very open to the opinions of others, when presented in a reasonable way.
It bothers me when sticks claims it to be otherwise there because I have found that to be simply not true, and I felt it would be wrong of me to not offer this community another perspective.
Welcome Fog! Nice to see some new faces!
Dont worry most of us had things figured out from the first couple of posts.
You seem like a quite guy so you probably won't get in any trouble there. I had thousands of posts, and lots to say that didn't always jive with the popular opinion over there. That got the main gang upset and they decided to railroad me out of town. Red, you wouldn't last a week there with your attitude!
Funny Ive been a member there for years.
Ha!

I'll just put this out there:
Rush as a creative group are amazing and they still have the chops to back their creativity when playing live. Judging by Geddy's vocals, I could see the band retire from touring in the next 5 years...may be not, but I think they will, if not sooner. The Hall of Fame is a great thing for them.
The Stones...For all the great work they have done in the past, I believe, most of the despise for them comes from them hanging on TOO long. They needed to retire from the tour about 15 years or more ago. They didn't and their image is tarnished to some because they can no longer deliver a solid performance without tremendous back up. They are like the old guy who no longer does his work at the company but shows up all the time: some think "wow that's amazing" and others "retire already..ugh!"
As for Neil Peart: I am really surprised a guy with his introverted issues was able to get it together after all his family losses and continue to perform. Very admirable.
Too bad Redneck had a bad experience with him.

I've met Neil countless times and yes, he's a introverted guy, but has always been decent to speak to. Imagine being hounded every day, every where you go, in every country in the world....it could get tiring for anyone.
Some people deal with it differently, and I respect that. I've met just about everyone, and there's some real (I'll skip this word) out there...David Lee Roth, told me **** *** kid , I dont have time for you...
Mark Zonder, who I asked about a certain poly-rythm he plays, told me he's not my drum teacher, go find 1 instead of asking him...funny, my band at the time ended up doing almost a month long tour with them. My buddy ended up playing keys with them, and another bud is still doing sound for Fates Warning...He bought an Akai sampler off me when our tour was over...I should have told him, I'm not GC, go find 1.
Yeah when I saw Rush on The Time Machine tour(twice) it seemed to me like Geddy was really straining on some of the vocals and every so often not quite pulling it off. (although I am sure no vocalist) Funny though, on the really high part of "Free Will" he absolutely nailed it.
To be fair I met him I 1986 so he may have changed a lot since.
lets just hope they keep going...3 guys making the music they make!!!!! go go go , all hail the REAL musicians that are RUSH

Well done Rush. I'm not a fan (quite the opposite) but they deserve recognition for their ability, longevity and their consistency. Not many people can work as hard as they have for over forty years and still turn up to work and put in the physical performance they would have in their twenties and thirties and have more to give. It's impressive.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is still a joke, though.
As for what happened on Drummerworld? I'm a member there too and Sticks is not representing the facts at all...
have to agree with Fogbound and Grumpius, as another long term lurker, Sticks is being a little forgetful terms of Drummerworld.
This reflects my sentiments as well.Well done Rush. I'm not a fan (quite the opposite) but they deserve recognition for their ability, longevity and their consistency. It is unfair to compare Rush and Rolling Stones. Apples and oranges. Stones are a balls to the wall, dancing, grooving, blues, and RnB based band (original intention of Rock n Roll).
Rush on the other hand, is a band that prides itself on complicated music (more in a symphonic way than rock), with lyrics that are heavily rooted in philosophy.
Both bands are at the top of the heap in their respective fields.
Who cares about some place that looks like a picture gallery, with plaques on the wall praising these celebrity musicians?! Music is a spirit that transcends and belongs to us all.
all the best...

No you weren't Markadiddle. It appeared that others may have been trying to. Both bands have been around a long time and both totally dedicated to what they do.
all the best...
I know exactly what you were saying Mark. This is the way it is around here, no matter how you try there is always someone that disagrees with you for whatever reasons which sometimes don't make any sense. This is the reason why I have been quiet these days. You just get tired of it.
