Default Mike Miley (of Rival Sons)

Mike's classic fills and triplets combined with his beautiful open sounding drums on the "Rival Sons" recordings have certainly placed him near the top of my list.

Yeah he is an awesome drummer. His style really reminds me of Bonham, more so than probably any other drummer I've heard. Rival Sons is a great band too, although I'm not really into their new album.

I didn't see any Bonham in his playing..big shoes to fill..Band has a big Bad Co. sound to them, never a bad thing.

I don't get the Bonham reference either. Seems like just another run of the mill average drummer to me. He does his job well, but nothing stands out making me go wow, that was something I need to learn. But then again I was never impressed with Charlie Watts either, so what do I know? The singer on the other hand is excellent.

I don't hear any "Bonham-esque" type drumming either. Being the big Led Zepp fan that I am, I know Bonzo style drumming when I hear it. That wasn't it. Sorry.

This is the song I think of when people compare him to Bonham.

I still don't hear the resemblance. Sorry.

I really enjoy Mike's playing. The band writes some great tunes. They remind me a bit of Montrose and Bad Co., more than Zep, though.

    Just my $0.02.

This guy is my biggest influence still drumming today. I think the best think about him is the personality he puts in his playing and just the balls in his drum grooves

the whole "Bonham" and Zep sidetrack that this thread took started because I simply noted that Mr. Miley quite often made use of what has become known as a "Bonham-style triplet". He does. I wasn't comparing his current band Rival Sons to Zep.. or Mike Miley to Bonham. Others might have, I didn't.

This article appeared today on EW.. 30, Apr 2015:

Legendary Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page has been stumping for Long Beach garage-blues group Rival Sons since 2012. It’s not hard to understand why: Their brand of guitar scuzz and frantic vocals hit the spot like a Bud and a shot of Jameson at a dive bar after a long day.
Their fourth album Great Western Valkyrie dropped last year and recalls Zeppelin at its grooviest and Jack White as his wildest. EW has the exclusive premiere of Rival Sons’ “Electric Man” video, which juxtaposes the band with weird science footage from the 1950s. “We were recently asked to be an experiment in a laboratory study,” bassist Dave Beste says. “The people behind the study evidently wanted to measure our rock-n-roll power, and so we played ‘Electric Man’ and in the process we broke all their equipment. Somebody taped it and we made a special video out of it. So watch it, and enjoy it. We love science.”
