Default Best Mom & Pop drum shop

Where is the best place in America to go to for drums. I want to try higher end stuff like DW, Gretsch USA, Ludwig, Pearl, Tama. But not the low end stuff. I am planning on going on a road trip to memphis drum shop this summer but is there a better store out there.

Late8 will probably agree with me on this. I'd have to say Skip's Music, Sacramento, California. The customer service and inventory they carry is out of this world! If they don't have something in stock, they will bend over backwards to get it for you.

There are a ton of great drum shops around the USA. Dales, Bently's, Resurrection, and so many others, but if I had to pick one it would be Memphis Drum Shop or Fork's in Nashville.
The answer to all "Which one should I buy?" questions is the same. Play them and choose the one that sounds best to you.

Skins N Tins in Champaign,IL that had a massive amount of drum gear new and used. I think it as a drums only. It's been a few years since I have been there but they had wall to wall cymbals and many different Sabian models including the HH and HHX lines. The prices were a bit cheaper the GC's are.If the place wasn't so far away from me,I would of bought some cymbals there.
Look the website up and look at the pictures.Place is full of drums and cymbals!

Boy, that drumset you buy is gonna cost a lot more after food and gas costs are totalled in. I'd first google local drum shops to find out if anything's closer before making a cross country vacation.

One drum shop in Australia that I've yet to check out that's over the interstate border for me is a place called Drum Palace, in Doncaster, Victoria. I heard about this store ages ago through a mate that was down there and he told me the collection of vintage (as well as not-so-vintage) snares, kits, cymbals, percussion, hardware and so on has to be seen to be believed. Judging from what I've seen online, I need to win Lotto to get what I want from that store.....everything!

Greenbrier music would be a recommendation for higher end kits. I had a bad experience with their customer service but if you don't need that you might find some decent finds with them. They have a lot of videos on YouTube demonstrating their kits. That's where I got my renowns for a very good price.

Yeah Greenbrier has great prices, I doubt you will find anything cheaper,

The drum shop of Portland Maine is awesome and has alot of high end Craviotto, DW, Brady, Sonor, Yamaha etc. as well as Portland Percussion which is also in Maine.

Lil further away is the Drum Center of portsmouth (NH) they have alot of higher end stuff Craviotto, Brady, Canopus, C & C, Noble and Cooley, GMS, Trick, Ludwig, Gretsch, etc etc. and the customer service is Top Notch.

Dale's Drum Shop. Dale was Buddy Rich's tech for 7 years. Best shop around. Outstanding selection and even better prices. Great staff too.

I can attest to Memphis drum shop. I go as often as I can, because it's only a 3 hour drive from where I live, and 45 minutes if I'm on campus in Oxford, MS. Beware of the famous cymbal room, though. A few minutes in there trying out different cymbals, and you'll have a serious case of G.A.S. They have a grerat inventory of high end stuff. They even have one of Ringo's kits on display

Vic's Drum Shop in Chicago,IL. Hands down the best drum shop Ive ever been to. They have a separate room for everything.... cymbals, snare drums, hardware, sticks, cases, ekits, acoustic kits, etc. They have hundreds of different kits and they will set up any of them that you want to play. I think they also carry 1 of every cymbal made. Its like drummers heaven.

Greenbrier does have some great deals on their site, can only imagine how much better you can get in store. I don't like their videos though, every set i've watched a demo of was drowned to death in compression making it impossible for me to judge true sound.

Forks Drum Closet in Nashville is awesome. A lot of kits set up to try out, unlike other places that have a bunch of kits just stacked to shove as many in as possible.

Atlanta Pro Percussion is pretty nice. The coolest I've ever been to is Sam Adatos Drumshop in San Francisco. Use to go whenever I was in the city. Drums i have gotten from Sam are still in *use today.

The Drum Shop , Portland Maine. They have a DW store online also. High end DW kits are their main focus, but they also sell other kits. They have a ton of beautiful DW kits. Tell them Joe D. sent you. They will take care of you.
