You broke down and got a Ludwig snare
Went looking for an acrylic kit today due to watching a Chad Smith video for Remo heads and thought I really liked the look of Chrome on clear.
I checked a few on line sites and while there started thinking about the new Mapex drums and how I was really fond of my Saturns (since I'd previously owned two different ones). So I started looking at them and wanted to see what the new finishes were all about. I went to the Mapex web site and started looking at what they had.
I found one I think I could like so I went back to the on line sites to track one down and guess what? I didn't find any that were available. So I also started looking at the new snare drums from Mapex.
Guess what finally happened?

I haven't seen them, either. Probably a good thing. I did find Crush drums with a 6 pc acrylic for $1100.00 on ebay. Not sure what is good pricing or even if the drums sound decent. It is by far an emotional only attempt at owning a clear kit.
From those who own them, I'd be happy to listen to your overall opinions of them. Are they liked and do they have a place in a live environment?
ask itchie he have one

Pearl won't make acrylic drums unless you're a roster artist, unfortunately. The closest thing they have to the sound is birch(or possibly carbon fiber) shell via their Masterworks. Soundwise I can honestly not tell worlds of difference between acrylic and birch drums, they both seem to have focused attack and great high/low frequencies. If you ask me Pearl should introduce Masters acrylic(they could call them ACX) and bring back Masters birch(i'd call these BCX). Might be beneficial to have more sounds to choose from without paying a small fortune for a Masterworks.

I know Shane and Itchie have them. I also know Pearl doesn't.
I'm hoping those that do will pipe in.
I desperately want an acrylic kit.

I too have pondered about getting an acrylic kit. I love how they sound. I also hove how birch drums sound, and the acrylic sound is similar to birch. I also like how they can look on stage with the lights and clears heads. I just may give in some day and get one if I can find a good one for a good price!

Acrylic kits have a raw punch you in the face tone so don't expect to be smooth like barry white
I saw a used 5pc Crush acrylic in the store 2 days ago.. Sounded great actually, a little loud but may have been head selection. Crush looked well made. I like the idea of clears too, maybe someday in the future.
