Default Bought Yamaha dtxtreme II used.

I just bought a Yamaha DTXtreme II for $250. I think it's a great deal seeing how much they're going for online. But it has some Issues. It's over 10 years old. the Hi hat is stuck to open, which on research, I am seeing that's common. Some of the rack mounts are cracked. (I made them worse by having to slam on my brakes.) And the crash cymbals will not choke.

First off, was this a good of a deal is I thought it was? Is the Hi hat an easy fix? I'm sure I can get new rack mounts for cheap. And are the Crash cymbals just worn out? Thanks.

I bought a DTXtreme III about 8 years ago and had these kind of problems almost from the start. They have not got worse, in spite of 8 years of hammering! Guess that is eKits for you. Love 'em for their fun-factor though.

Hmmmm. I've always read that if you go with an e-kit, go with Roland or nothing. You would think that the other manufacturers of e-kits would work towards erasing this preconception. Lets hope that some day they will, eh? Being cheaper than Roland so far mostly means inferior I guess. Good luck.

the screws holding the two halves of the cymbals together loosen over time due to vibration

    re-tighten them

    THEN disparage the other brands

Yeah. I think at some point one would notice that a screw is loose. I'm only stating a fact that I have read about way more than once about the quality gulf between Roland and everyone else.

Opps. Sorry. I had no right to rag on your choice of brands. I know that Roland's are overpriced for both reasons, and we sometimes have to go the other route.
