Members:
Occasionally hackers try to access our board. One method they use is to try to guess a member's password. When this happens, our system will automatically send you an e-mail (see below) after their 5th failure alerting you that someone is trying to get into your account. If you have a relatively strong password, there is nothing to worry about. If your password is weak, that hacker, depending on their level of sophistication, could actually figure it out. Here is a link to a page that will help you learn more about choosing strong passwords: http://www.lockdown.co.uk/?pg=password_guide
To our knowledge, we've never had a member account hacked but it is possible so we wanted our members to be informed if they receive an e-mail like the following:

Hmm.. I'll work on a different password, thanks for heads up. I wouldn't worry though, unless you're an important member why would they bother. A hacker would more than likely go after the big fish - owners, super mods, mods, vip's, etc.. I'm more worried about you guys!

No, I believe they'd go after anybody so they can just make some spam posts. If they get just one spam post up, links with tennis shoes or something, and it hangs for a day or so, and they get click throughs, it's a success because they make their money off of fraudulent affiliate clickthroughs.
Damn hackers.....always putting divots in the fairway course and forgetting to fill them with sand from their buckets.....I tell ya, they're going to ruin this A grade course!

Wait.....wrong forum....
On a serious note folks, make sure that you've a strong password and pay heed to the advice given in the original post.

Why wouldn't they go after the top cats? That would give them control of the site altogether. I've known a good number of hackers(unfortunately), they tend to be interested in profitable challenges. I see your point though about the spam, that seems an effective method and you could get the member to take blame for everything. Yikes.

I've had a credit card account and 1 of my checking accounts hacked into.
I have no sympathy for people who get into your personal business, whether to try and take something from you or just screw with you.
I had 1 about 6 months ago that actually scared me. At the top it had the FBI logo and looked, at first glance, totally legit. It said I violated federal law by looking at kiddie porn. Then, after reading down the page, it said to put money in a envelope that I can get at several well known stores and send it wherever. On top of that, you couldn't get it off your PC. I wound up pulling the plug out and waiting a while, which cleared it, but it did happen a couple of times.
I wanted to find that person and beat him so bad his mother wouldn't recognize him.
Maybe they think if they hack drummers they will play like them?

I would love to see a bot or a human just try and hack my password. If it ends up happening, I'd be very surprised, and kinda screwed... Then again, I do have some backups.
