    It's not what you were thinking but don't you just love those provactive titles?

    What has been like the Bible of drumming resources for you? A book? Video? Website? Other?

    That'll work. I guess I thought to ask the question because for years drummers referred to Ted Reed's syncopation book as sort of the "drumming Bible" but now, a generation later, I'm sure it's changed.

    Other: The digital audio recorder. Band practices are recorded once a week then reviewed at a later time to listen for areas of improvement in my playing. This valuable tool allows me focus on how well my dynamics blend in with the rest of the band and reveals if I over-play in certain parts of a song.

    Man, I'm sooooo disappointed. I was really really looking forward to busting you for posting a religious topic.

    This site has done as much, or more, for me than anything other than my personal instruction.

    I get accused of over thinking things, but my scientific mind just naturally wants to understand things. That's where DC comes in. You folks help me understand, and when that gets out of the way, then doing becomes much easier for me.

    I am working through the drum set musician with my instructor. I like it but it is the only book I have ever used so far.

    Video mostly. I like to play a lot of prog rock with Rush being the favorite. I need someone that's better than I am to show me whats going on sometimes. So I go to YouTube and search out someone that has already figured it out and use it as a training video. Usually it's Astrotama, or Pauleewanna for Rush tunes. Music that is less complex I can figure it out on my own usually by just listening a bunch of times and just playing it out.

    I learn by watching and listening.

    It started with Ringo Starr and Dave Clark;

    Followed by many dozens of others;

    I still do it the same as always -- but now I really appreciate the innovation of youtube and the lessons posted here at the board............very helpful.

    A book of Rick-isms, would be worth reading and even helpful in most cases.

    I'm working on a poll about how not to pass gas when there is only 1 other person on the elevator with you.

    What techniques are used, and what happens if the gas hits the fan.

    That should be good for 5 pages.

    Aside from DrumChat, I'm not suprised to hear YouTube mentioned. It's made a world of difference in the amount of information available to the kids of today. I can't imagine how further along I'd be had I had access to something like that. I remember paying $40 a piece for videos when I was young.

    Thought provoking thread. For me, there has been no one single source. I have a collection of books, magazines, vcr, dvd, gadjets and electronics that I refer to and use. Some more valuble than others depending what's on the burner at the moment. I've had my greatest success with lessons on dvd inspired by an Australian teacher. The one thing that's been missing from my arsenal is one on one training. I wonder if that would do it for me ?
    Most definitely. As a matter of fact, there will be "NO LIMIT"... just an unending quagmire of musical genius.
