Default Check out this sexually biased drumset ad.

I was surprised in this age of super non-offensive PCness to find this blatantly "boy" marketed drumset ad on the Walmart website (this is a screen cap, no links). I think Sheila E and Hanna Ford should hire some power lawyers and go after 'em. Seriously though - I have an 8 to 5 majority of girls over boys in my high school drumline this fall. This is no longer a boys exclusive club and hasn't been for years.

Present your son with this fabulous royal blue .... drum set and watch his face light up with delight. This is an ideal musical instrument for every young drummer who wishes to practice and develop his drumming skills. It is a 3-piece junior drum set that comes with stands.... (etc.) .... The junior drum set with cymbals will help the talent youngster develop his hand and feet coordination that is required for classic drumming. Designed like an original drums, the metallic royal blue junior drum set is constructed at a slightly smaller scale to make it easier for him to practice. The GP Percussion junior drum set also includes a drum junior drummer's throne for him to sit and play his favorite beats.

There are so many very good to exceptionally good lady drummers out there. ( I don't use the word great much because it gets thrown around to everybody from Ringo to the guy that looks like Pee Wee Herman. It really has no valid meaning anymore)

Ms Caplette has a great technique, Ms Ford plays with power that a lot of guys can't touch, and Ms Kalifus plays with a speed approaching the fastest male players.

The ladies are coming and I'm glad I don't have to compete with them.

Still, a lot of people (males) think that drumming is a "man thing".

It's amazing that the ad got into print. Obviously, the copy writer knows absolutely nothing about the drumming world.

I don't understand why it's offensive? Some sets are marketed towards kids due to size. Kids can't reach what adults can, it's a height restriction. I love the fact you can get smaller sets to keep them in the game. Having not seen the original ad and just text, it doesn't appear to be anything other than poorly written grammar-wise.

I kind of agree with Russ. I get tired of continually having to worry about political correctness. I think it's a big mountain being made of a molehill. Most of the drummers are still guys. If I was a girl, in a predominantly male profession, I personally would have no problem with it.

Was it smart to do it on Walmart's part? No. But I'd rather get worked up about more important things.

I have to agree with both Russ and drummer. I get tired as well of all the "Political Correctness". It seems like we as a society are always having to walk on eggshells and think about every miniscule and granular detail as to not offend, when in reality, all we are doing is appeasing ourselves and the other party we are trying to tread lightly around isn't even offended at all.

The only other thing I can think of is, since it is a blue kit and blue is often associated as a male color, perhaps that's why it was written that way. Although, the ad did go on to state, "This is an ideal musical instrument for every young drummer who wishes to practice and develop his drumming skills. "Every young drummer" could include anyone.

Couldn't agree more. Who cares? girls can still play the set, if they won't buy it because its "not labeled for girls" so people take it offensively. Then don't buy it. I as well get tired of the extremes people go to be politically correct, and for what? just so you don't hurt someones feelings? Its not like they geared the set toward a single race or something.

Sorry to start a fire and run...

I'm not really offended by this, I was just very surprised that the wording made it through whatever checks they have in place. I'm sick of super PCness myself, but the big companies take it very seriously. There seems to be a lawsuit lurking around every corner if people think they can get something for nothing.

I agree the ad stinks...maybe Wal Mart is taking the whole marketing thing that blue is for boys and pink for girls a little to far...didn't see a pick set advertised!

Just for the record, I did not type the "S" word, I typed 4 asterisks.
