What is the dumbest thing(s) you've done?

Doesn't have to be about drumming.

first thing comming to mind is stabbing myself in the hand with a knife...
it was an accident, but still dumb...

second thing comming to mind is some years ago, i took my 2 wheeler out in a blizzard and fell and hurt my shoulder quite bad... but is was not all bad, it just happened, that when they took the xray they found a cyste on my bone... it turned out to be nothing, but still...

lastly, back in 1990(or there about) quitting the violin, i could have made it big...

I once spilled a glass of milk, got up to replace it, sat back down and spilled it again, got up again to replace it and believe it or not, spilled it again. I felt pretty damn stupid.

I ran completely through a sliding glass patio door.

Ended up with dozens of stitches and about 75 staples.

    I was a mess.

Ask anybody that works in IT. Long strange hours, stress, very little pay, dealing with people that don't even know where the "on" button is and you have to constantly keep up with ever changing technology.

Or maybe it was the time I fell up the stairs. (don't ask)

In first grade, we had our milk and cookies then was nap time. All with our heads down on the desks, I peeped through under my arm and on the floor was a bobby pin. Just above that, an electrical outlet. I thought, I wonder what would happen if I plugged it in? I opened it up a little to try to plug it in and it didn't fit. I scraped off some of the plastic coated ends and plugged it in and sparks shot out popping. I quickly got back into my seat and the teacher asked who did that? Everyone pointed at me. A janitor came with a rubber glove and pliers and pulled it out saying "You could of shorted out the whole school!" I remember waiting in the office for my mother to walk to school and pick me up. I was kicked all the way home.

Or was it the time (with only a permit and two friends) I drove the station wagon through my neighbors fence...

Or maybe the time I asked my parents to borrow the car and stayed gone the whole weekend....

Or when I was playing darts with my brothers to see who could throw them the closest to our feet without getting stabbed.....

    Or when....

The dumbest thing I ever did was said that I would never spend my life/career sitting behind a desk staring at a computer.

What I should have said, apparently, was that I would never spend my life as a famous drummer with the rock star life...

    It's a toss-up;

    • Quit Engineering school after 2-1/2 years to work full time
    • Pass up the chance to buy a '70 Mustang Mach1 in excellent condition from a friend for $3,000 back in 1995.

My brother did that once, but somehow he managed to get nothing more than a few scratches.

As for the dumbest thing I've ever done, one thing that comes to mind is when I was kid and I was at a carnival or something...there was one of those things where you hit it with a heavy mallet to make a ball shoot up and ring the bell at the top. I somehow completely missed the little platform you were supposed to hit and whacked myself in the knee.

Earlier this year I was in the art studio at school and I decided to go rummaging through a bin full of glass shards with no gloves on. That was pretty dumb...

When I was 4 or 5 I accidentally dumped an entire gallon of milk over my little brothers head.

really, i had the feeling that the pay was rather good, my brother in law seems to be doing alright...

as for keeping up with current tech, i do that too, i have to because i am the goto guy for most, when it comes to getting new hardware

    2 actually come to mind.

When I was in 5th grade, I got up early to mow the lawn, and I decided that the family station wagon was too close to the garage door. I got in it to roll it back just a little bit. Well, I didn't take into account the grade of the driveway, nor the amount of force needing to be applied to the brake pedal to stop the car. Yep, you guessed it . . . it rolled right out into the street. Try explaining that one to your parents. Dumb!

When I was about 27 or so, I was an avid softball player (that means I was playing as if there might be scouts in the stands). I was an outfielder, and prided myself on my speed and good hands - I could run down and catch anything hit in the air in my part of the field. We were practicing on afternoon - and I emphasize that we were PRACTICING - and I was in left field. The ball was hit to the third baseman, and I was running in to back up the play, when the ball took a bad hop and went right up his arm, into the air (remember what I said about anything in the air in my part of the field). I just couldn't let it hit the ground, so I dove, caught it, and then tried to twist my body sideways to keep my shoulder from hitting the ground - the ground got there a little too fast. It was several weeks before I could raise that arm again. Did I mention that this was PRACTICE? Dumb!

Cutting A Piece of plywood on saw horses with a Skill Saw last fall.
Was getting close to the metal horses with the cut.
Instead of just turning off the saw to move the horse I kept it running, reached under with one hand and managed to shred four of the fingers.

Once, I trusted my brother to fix me a slice of pizza. (He "fixed" it alright: he poured a bunch of tabasco sauce on it. I got him back for that one though. )

Another time, I decided to see how fast my 1993 Ford Escort could go on the interstate. I got it up to at least 100 mph! (Man, that was fun! )

The dumbest thing I've ever done however, must be when I decided not to quit while I was behind (I was never ahead), and signed up for the same algebra course that pounded my sorry butt into the ground and handed it back to me the previous semester. In case you're wondering, this is how it went the second time around: . (Algebra, how I LOATH you. let me count the ways: [insert Infinity sign here].)

Algebra is easy. For guitar players, counting to 21 is hard.

6 days ago I got into a car with no shoes, because I couldn't find socks.

.. Yes, of course it gets better. Within a minute of driving, car accident, rolled car. I was picking glass out of myself for the next three days, most of it from my feet! I guess most of us would have gotten into a car shoeless, no great sin there, but it sure feels like a dumb decision at the minute.

Other than that, probably picking such a great instrument. It's hard fighting off all the adoring fans.

One of my greatest mistakes was playing in bands whose style of music I didn't really enjoy playing. I know the creedo is "play many style to get better" but if you don't enjoy it, why do it?
