Not only could you be physically fatigued, but mentally as well. Both will take a toll on your playing.

I work 50+ hours a week at a pretty physical job, practice 5 hours a week, and also gig out 3-4 times a month. Not to mention I'm 50 years old. I can attest that at times either one, or both kinds of fatigue, have affected my play. Sometime so dramatically that I must dumb down what I'm doing, just to be able to keep tempo. It doesn't help my singing or even remembering lyrics at these times either.

With a practice regimen such as yours, it may take some time for your body to adjust to the rigors, but if you are in decent shape to begin with it will happen.

Yea today was a lot better ( i actually got more than 5 hours of sleep)I don't plan on spreading myself that thin for awhile. I just couldn't believe how drained I was and how sloppy my playing got and I was literally dreading setting and breaking down my kit lol

^ Sometimes man you just need to rest. I do that now and then, otherwise I could just as easily burn out. At least doubling on other things (tuned percussion and now a bit of keyboards) puts me in a different mindframe, so that I'm rarely mentally tired, but yeah I can get physically tired from all the rehearsals, gigging, recording and teaching that I have to do, at times. Still, I can't complain. Things are going exactly as I want it.

That's key. Even the "easiest" of jobs will become difficult when you haven't had enough sleep - and drumming ain't easy.

I do have a pretty easy job - 9 months out of the year. I work at Toys R Us, and this will be my third "season" (We don't track how long we've been around by years - its how many Christmases you've been through.) By mid-December, I'm living on auto pilot, and I'm not the only one. Even the guys that have been there over 10 seasons still start to make stupid mistakes the closer to Christmas - and the longer the hours -it gets. Last year the assistant manager (15 seasons) tired to take a u-boat (large wheeled moving dolly) fully loaded down the stairs.

You have a lot on your plate - I know I couldn't do it and you've got a few years on me. Just try to get some more sleep and I think you'll feel better over time!

When my band booked our studio session to record 12 songs. We thought at the time it was a great idea to book right after SXSW Music Festival because we'd be inspired.

Well as it turns out. That was not such a great idea because we had been partying all week long going to see bands.

    We were all exhausted!

Well by the end of the first session my fingers were cramping up so bad I couldn't play even if I wanted too. And it was painful. My bass player dubbed me Sir Crampsalot.

Anyway. We powered through 12 songs in 3 days and it still managed to turn out pretty good.

I just had to hydrate and relax.

Countless times I've been heard muttering " I wish I played the flute" as I was breaking down the kit.

I didn't feel good at all during our last band practice. We did the set for the next show and noticed my arms feeling really heavy really couldn't wait till it was over. Once it was i got outta there fast and laid flat on the floor and felt like throwing up. On the way home I had severe muscle cramping all over legs arms, back, stomach man it hurt almost had to pull off the freeway twice.

I was way past a little dehydration. I'm suprised I didn't pass out. I enjoy having a beer probably too many that day before and during. I am going to make a better effort to have a jug of water from now on. Been on vacation too and yesterday got back to my running. I'm feeling better.

Wow man...you're one busy drummer! It's no wonder you never responded to my PM...too busy! Get at least 6 hours of sleep a day. Your body and mind will know that you're under 'sleep debt' if you don't get the needed restful sleep to recharge the batteries. It takes weeks to reduce the 'sleep debt' you owe your body. Good luck! I'm assuming there's alot of people counting on you to keep pushing yourself.
