Great stuff! My band plays several of those same songs (although not as good). We do Move It On Over as a Texas Swing or Rock-a-billy..depending on the crowd. IMO- You're dead-on with what your playing right now. Clean & simple, but with energy and drive. You MIGHT be able to throw a touch more simple fills and cymbals in a few spots...but not very much. You guys have that clean, vintage '50s country sound....but yet it's YOUR OWN sound, and it works. I would kill to have a steel guitar player like that....or a voice like yours. Too bad I'm 1300 miles away. I would love to be able to jam with you guys just for fun.

    Slinky & n2bluz...thxs fellas,,,,i agree...
Coulda played more, coulda had snare louder....
    "woulda shoulda coulda"....
I scare the guy (mike the singer) enuff
with my voice & agressiveness about biz,,,
gotta "wean the old guy into sir phrogge's world"
not my band (initially,,,but "equal voice" now....)

i tried alot of different stickings like:
Using my black mambo cowbell covered in duct tape
(instead of closed hihat to "ride" thru patterns)
    brushes,blastiks,lightening rods...
Or one of the above in one hand,,,,stick in the other....

Keep in mind also this was recorded with da roland spd11/k8 kickpad ekit
i didnt mix it & in doin the recordings
either the pearl 6 1/2"x14" frre floatinng snare or same size
pearl stainless snaare was louder than hell....
So we rerecorded some uusin my 3 1/2"x13" pearl maple piccollo snare
or he pulled in down in the mix....

Also in alot of "classic country" there are next to no drums
in many tracks "patsy cline's walikn after midnite"
i wantrd my voice on top (im whispering more than singin)
and im suckin oxygen thru a compressor while recording!!!!

Some tunes *hank sr" he complained cos he wanted to be true
to da recordings so i played none when there werent none...
& i won when he asked me to play some more (or louder!!!!) ta dah !!!!

    Live shows are more phun

cos on stuff like "65 pontiac"
ive slowed it down abit so it drives more like
"born on the bayou" by ccr....
Live on "run for the wall" altho i use only hihat & bass drum
when it builds on the ending & the bikes come in
(cool & loud live cos he sampled his own harley!!!)
i use the tympani pads for da rolling drums (more dynamic)

both the singer & guitar player have guitar "vocalizers"
so with them singin,,the machines harmonizing & me in da mix
it sometimes appears to have 7 vocalists!!!!!
Nuffin in phx like it !!!!

I intend in the very near future to start incorporating my
roland 908 human rhythm composer for a variety of reasons:
The more "she "(legal name is roxanne b rollin) does
the more i can incorporate different roland pad sounds
    more percussion (shakers,zydeco tie,spoons)
and it will have an inbred "click track"...

One of the major challenges in playing simple & clean is that
tempo sticks out like a sore thumb if it aint groovin,,,
this is a new adventure to me & i intend to take it so far out da box
that nobody & i mean nobody will sound like or duplicate
the phine art that is "sir phrogge"...

Im laughin to myself as i say that cos some correspondence
i get from old aquaintances say:
"yer kinda hard to forget yanno from yer approach
to yer voice & yer passion for music"
when i hear that from some of the biggest names in the business
my phriends,,,it makes my heart smile & my soul to dance....
And i know "music is what i am as much as who i am!!!

Sounded great Phrogge.........................ain't it something how music can make you feel that way. I hope I'm still playing when I'm your age brother.

Good luck with your health and keep on jamming....................wish I was closer to hear you live.

I liked it just like it was. It's about the song and the feel, not the instruments....especially that style of music (as opposed to the "guitar rock" era). I think you guys nsiled it, and I understand why talk of adding more to the drums makes the other guys nervous. Everything focuses on the vocals and the feel of the song. I agree 110% about the difficulty of playing simple and clean requiring you to be (and stay) in the groove. To me, that's what makes playing the old Country and Bluegrass so much fun....and frustrating at times, LOL.

    Longgun...thxs....
I aint "that" old,,,(trees & dirt are older)..
Its just kinda phunny to me after"funy music"
and zep & deep purple & shotunes & schtick humor
and 45 years later my passion still fans a flame
that yearns to be so simple & "out da box" at da same time...
Who woulda thunk dat country music would grant me that?

    Just goes to show
    as my mentor al dennison
(keyboard player for hamilton ,joe frank, & reynolds
gold record winner introd to da biz by steve gadd...
