Hey y'all, how have you been? I haven't had much of a chance to post these days, I've been pretty busy leading up to the end of my final year of high school, but I still check through the forums every once in a while.

Anyway, due to space constraints I've stripped the kit back as far as I felt I could; Kick, snare and hats. A video of a jam I had today can be found here.

It really was a unique experience after being used to a much larger kit! I'd really recommend trying out smaller setups if you're used to larger ones, not necessarily to become proficient playing with less, but just because it's an interesting experience to see where your imagination takes you.

Nice snare work almostmatt1. The "Kit" looks pretty stark. I think that's a great idea to work on chops with just a snare, kick and hats. I always out of habit, set those pieces up first and work the other parts of the kit into the set up. Sometimes I get carried away and forget to set up the rest of the kit and just jam with those three key pieces. But it doesn't take long until I yearn for a full kit.

So...I hope you're finally recovered from the accident? I remember you said your ribs took a beating? Looks like the chops are still there!

This reminds me of a video i've seen of a masterclass with Periphery, Matt uses the same set up and plays through a song with it.

Don't you hate it when a sentence doesn't end the way you octopus?

Thanks Rich. It does seem to make me subconsciously work on more rudimental stuff a lot more, which I don't mind one bit! Yessir, I've recovered completely by now. My chest copped the worst of the accident and it's completely healed now. Thank you again for the kind words.

Thanks longgun! Those one handed rolls are really cool when you have them down. I've still got a heck of a way to go with mine but they're really great fun to muck around with.

I MUST be getting old, 'cause 60 seconds was about all I could take of that, LOL. Nothing against the guys or their talent and abilities.....I just ain't feeling it. Guess my age is catching up with me. I love the simple drum set up, but with just drums and one guitar, it doesn't seem to translate well into that style of music. Time to take my Geritol and fall asleep in my recliner watching Lawrence Welk...

    Play the SONG......not the DRUMS!!!

Well considering Periphery uses 3 guitars and bass and a whole lot of different effects when they record and play live, one guitar isn't exactly that great to listen to because he's just playing a small portion of whats going on, but I can definitely understand where you're coming from, it's not for everyone.

That makes more sense now.....but I still don't even know who Periphery is. In fact, I've never even heard of them. I'll have to check it out.
