Not so much air drumming. But tapping with all limbs which is just as annoying to the non drummers in your life.

When the songs with the big fills come on the radio, my hands go up! LOL Indeed, it is a sickness. Something takes over and we must obey the rhythmic demand of the percussion Gods!
I do it in the car all the time. Steering wheel becomes a snare and HH, brake becomes bass pedal. My family especially hates it when I am driving and there is a good song on and we stop at a red light because we sit and inch forward between "bass" notes.
I tap on what ever is around my thigh, table tops, steering wheel, I found myself tapping out beats on counters when I go into a store and I'm waiting for something, I don't even realize it at first. My wife will say what are you doing . I'm just thinking of the beat of the song
I like doing it in five star restaurants with the big forks and knives. Gotta use everybody's water glasses for the full effect

I like air drumming but mostly I tap on things such as a desk top and my lap.
As a young drummer in the mid to late '50's, you never saw anybody playing air anything.
I think it was in the '70's that I saw someone air drumming for the 1st time, and I remember thinking that he must be a wannabe.
I don't tap out songs on the steering wheel, nor do I do it on my lap or table top. If I want to play, I go downstairs to my set and play.

Bad air drumming still sounds way better than bad "real" drumming!
all the best...
The most I'll do off a drum kit is thumb drumming on my steering wheel, or my foot will follow the beat. I don't flail my arms in the air.

I've been doing it for years. Air guitar too... ohh, and keyboards as well. Once I was voted best air guitarist. heh heh
On another note.
Some friends and I... (this was like 30 years ago) were downtown doing the club scene, we had a few drinks in us and were walking down the street when we saw this guy in his car at a stoplight. This dude was WAILING in the air with his arms playing air drums like there was no tomorrow. It was hilarious!
We were all pointing and laughing at him for like 30 seconds before he realized we were standing there. When he finally saw us, he started laughing too. We were all like "rock on dude!" We all have done the same thing.
I will never forget that as long as I live.

In years past when we'd go to bars to hang out and play billiards, I'd have to grab a couple of pool cues and play them like drum sticks when a good rock song would come on.
That sobered some people up enough they could actually drive home legally.

Air drum, yes !
"stop that with your feet, its like we are having an earthquake" in a meeting with the BIG boss.
After some vitamin W, I have to keep my hands in my pockets at bars.
The worst part is I don't even realize I'm doing it.
A stern pataflafla in 16th notes on a table, check out isle, desk, bank teller window, or bar really gets peoples attention, I have learned over the years.
I am sofa king we todd did...... repeat out loud.
